I have duratracs and I love them they do really good on snow and ice. Most of the time I just keep it in 2 wd and do just fine. But like Ben said its all about throttle control and knowing that h will have to start to stop a lot earlier when it's icy out. Oh and Amazon has free shipping on tires FYI

Good to know about Amazon, I never would have thought to look there.

Some gravel or sand bags in the back help out a lot too.

They have free super saver shipping deals that come in super handy. Ordered 8 atv tires last summer and paid no shipping. Also had a set of wheels for my truck picked out on free shipping but held off. I get on there randomly just to see what they are offering free shipping on that I may need

I'm from Upstate NY, so I can handle myself in the snow. It's been a while so it'll take some getting used to again but I'm no stranger to snow.....don't let the current Texas location fool you.

I've been following TW since I got mt truck, the duratracs do seem pretty popular.....those and BFG ATs. I may give mine a try, some folks on tire rack say they're good in snow...some say they suck. Probably depends on driving style.

Are block heaters an absolute necessity in Anchorage? I know it gets pretty cold but it seems similar to upstate NY weather and not many people use them in NY. So i'm curious about that as well. Anything else i'll need to worry about to "winterize" the truck? Been a long time since i've experienced real winter.

If you have a garage you could get away with not having a heater. The anchorage area has gotten pretty cold before. This last winter hasn't been to horribly bad. Honestly if I were you I would get one just to be safe. I bought mine from the toyota dealership up here for 70 bucks and it took me five min to put it in. It's the easiest block heater I've ever installed. You don't have to drain fluids or anything. The trucks already have a place in the block that's meant for it so all you get is the heater and some electric grease, you apply it generously on the part that goes in the engine and it literally slides in and snakes into place. Then all you have to do is take the outlet part and run it through your grill or where ever you want it to go. That's another thing I've found out about the dealer up here too is there prices on a lot of things isn't bad at all like most dealerships and they have an awesome military discount. I bought a whole painted to match side mirror controls and everything for 230. And that's them ordering it. And like I said the plugs only 70 bucks and comes with everything you need. Your truck may not need it in anchorage but it would appreciate it.

I'll have to get one for the wife's CX-7 too. I'll probably just wait until I get up there and have it put on up there (as long as I get move in the summer).

Depending on where you live and work, you may not have a plug in for a block heater. Neither my apartment building or my shop has them.

Does anyone have a trailer they'd be willing to let me borrow for a day? I need to take my R6 from my buddies house on base to our new place. A good sturdy set of loading ramps would work too, I just have neither. I never bought any for my quad since its easy enough just to pick it up and load it in the bed, but my bike is a tad heavier lol

All this tire talk and the warm up we've had has me considering throwing my m/t's on for the year. Beat the April rush.

I know where you can get it painted the right way?

Used to work at markels collision center, they almost exclusively work on European high end cars and Sam (owner) is a perfectionist. It will get done right. I'd be for that he'd charge you less than 200, my grill all painted by him was 200.
