I think the sidewall issues are more due to offroad encounters with sharp rocks and crap than just normal driving conditions

yeah but I plan on wheeling and do know a few trails that involve some sharp rocks. I've heard of sticks puncturing the sidewalls too. Maybe I should just get KM2s and then stick to my studded winter tires for winter, I don't know.

Thanks nick. I swung by today and the shop told me they didn't have a machine to dial in the size tires I have. They sent me to American Tire and got them pretty dialed in for me. It drives much smoother now. Still the slight feel you get with a larger tread type, but that's what I'm better used to. The guy at American said that my tires, Firestone Destination MT, tend be crappier built I guess. Says he's seen a lot of them come in with uneven wear and such for no real reason.

Thanks. Ya, it was awful. I think I might be done with the other place. What I NEED are some inexpensive black wheels so I can just swap the tires over myself each spring/fall.

True. But aren't yours stock? I'd have to invest in spacers or something to run my 285's.

Lol. Ya. Depending on the offset, just the fact they are 15,16,17,etc doesn't mean they'll always work. For a round object, tires/wheels are so complicated.

ha. Maybe he's trying to say they're 8'' wide? Who knows, but I'm kind of curious now. If they'd fit, I'd slap some 32x11.5x15s KM2s on there and call it a day.

Aren't toyota wheels offset +18? Think that might be what he meant? I could be off.

Thats the exact size I am running now and I like them.

I would say one of the best tires to run year round if you dont want to switch every winter.

    ^^This

I think any tire can be punctured through the sidewall it just all depends on how hard you wheel. I guess the way I look at it is its just the price we pay for wanting to play.

I think that if my stock tires have had no problems other than they suck. I think I will be fine with duratracs

I'm going to throw Duratracs on mine before I move up there this summer. I really don't think my current tires will cut it in the snow. Might as well swap them out while I can still get a couple hundred bucks for them to ease the wallet a little. Discount Tire quoted me about $1100 installed for the 265/70/17s.
