Done and gone. Left last night around 8pm and walked into the house a couple hours ago. About a 14 hour commute to get there from here, even by plane.

Had both of these in the past week as well. Good stuff. The Hopothermia is right up my alley.

I feel like we ate about every 5 minutes on this trip, but actually we were in Anchorage for only a few nights and we made the most of it. Ate at Orso (it was OK, more of a nostalgic visit since we had our wedding dinner there), Midnight Sun Brewery was great for dinner. Just wish they could be open later. Breakfast at Snow City Café was great - the eggs benedict there are really good. Pizza at Moose's Tooth was amazing. Wish I could try everything on that menu.

And one more plug - Northern Knives on 5th street is worth checking out if you're into knives at all. Lots of customs & productions in stock. For us visitors, the lack of sales tax is a plus. The guys were knowledgeable and friendly. I picked up an axe I had been wanting for a long time but never had access to a stocking dealer local to me.

Chena Hot Springs, UAF museum of the North, I've never done it but there's a big paddlewheel riverboat you can ride on the river in town, Angle Rocks or Granite Tors are good hikes.

I've been pretty out of the loop for the last month. I was in an NCO Academy that finally finished yesterday. Any plans of a mod day, get together or trail run coming up?

Agreed there are those pockets of free time, for my first year at school though those were rather unpredictable. I'm hoping I can make a rough schedule though. At least so I can do something fun on the weekends! :D

When do you guys throw your studs on? AK law is Sept. 15th if above 60 degrees latitude (Anchorage is) and Sept. 30 if below. IIRC I would put mine on sometime around the last week of October, but before Halloween. Or just wait until the first hard frost/snow.
