The biggest advantage of installing your own lift is understanding the suspension system of your truck. While it's one thing to know how it works on the internet, it's a whole separate thing to be able to disassemble the entire business in a reasonable period of time. That skill will serve you well should you go wheeling and break something.

Even if you do your own work, CW is a good shop for getting the alignment dialed in after

IF in my mind I can handle the task I refuse to pay someone to do the job.

It's tree trimming time and we have 3 - 35ft high Ash trees SO badly overgrown in our yard. I got a quote for $750 per tree.
I said fuck it!! bought a chainsaw which has been on my purchase list for a while now for $500, rented a boom lift for $575 for two days worth of work and gained a skill + a chainsaw.
EASY except I did it in our wonderful chinook winds :canada::crapstorm:
    That sucked!

Now to deal with the huge pile of limbs to chip.

Overpriced poor quality work these days.

Anyone here paying attention to the changes coming in the Castle, Livingston, and Porcupine Hills areas? Lots of trail closures coming.

My family has a place north of Coleman and I asked my uncle about it. He said it will be a year from when that matter was brought up that anything would be enforced. Not sure what that means and when exactly this all started but he assured me it won't affect anything in the pass anyways. To be clear this is all conjecture.. lol

I too am curious but at least it shouldn't affect any trails in the pass...?

However my OTHER uncle who lives full time in the pass I have a bad feeling he has a lot to do with this. He's on council and hates the ORV situation there.

Let's keep this info running on here if anyone has anything to share.

Well both of your family is right lol.

So right now the Castle area is in the consultation phase. You can find more information here"

    http://www.aohva.com/

The consultations so far have been nothing but a farce. They are glorified information sessions telling the public what is being done. If you ask a question or challenge the over generalized science being used to support the OHV ban in Castle, you will be told to shut up or leave. Even the questionnaires being sent out are simply loaded questions. If you put that you strongly disagree with the OHV ban being implemented within the time frame of the next 1-3 years they take that to mean you want the ban to occur faster than one year. Talk about a loaded BS question.

In the fall they will declare both Porcupine Hills and Livingston PLUZs. While there will be a consultation period for this the process actually began last year and there are no legal obstacles in there way from simply declaring those areas PLUZs right now. This will give the government the ability to unilaterally close or open trails as they see fit and remap the area trails as they see fit. In the PLUZs near Calgary trails have been cut down to barely 30% of what they were 20 years ago in the PLUZs. I suspect we will see the same changes in those areas. At this rate we will lose most of our trails before the next government is elected. Once the trails are lost they are likely gone forever.

Oh, and several trails are already shut down. It's now illegal to wheel above 6000 feet in Alberta. I bet you never heard about that. They are doing a very good job of doing things quietly while people fight about what to do in Castle even though the signs are already up declaring it a provincial park.

I'm definitely going to have to do more research. I'm pretty naive about all this and I look forward to any info you bring to the table. As you say, they're good at doing things quietly.. I've noticed a few signs on a few trails discouraging people in various ways but not flat out saying STAY OFF. Those went up within a 2 week span of me having been there and back.

Shitty thing is like a lot of things in our society, some assholes ruining for everyone else, destructive, disrespectful, littering, people going off trail making a good thing bad. I assume the no wheelin over 6000' is due to sensitive plant life being trampled?

Interesting, we were driving up a trail in the pass and every 10-20 feet or so someone piled up logs on the path. We noticed a zip-lock bag with a note in it saying whoever keeps putting these logs here is not discouraging off roaders. It encourages them to go around them, make new trails and hinders the ability of fire access.

What are the trails like in Porcupine Hills!? Ive always wanted to go check them out.

I've actually never wheeled in the Porcupine area because I don't really know any of the trails well enough out there. I usually go to Livingston/Racehorse though and those areas will suffer the same fate as Porcupine Hills.

If you want to see what we are up against start catching up on the articles by Kevin Van Tighem. He's a former National Park Employee who went on to become a prolific writer. He tends to concentrate on the type of books you see in the Hotel gift shops about how beautiful X area is around you. Anyways lots of newspapers love to have him write editorials for them and give him interviews because of how well spoken he is. He can twist anything you throw at him into something else and if you even suggest that he's lying he'll pull out his "4 wheelers have threatened to kill me," card, which by the way he has no proof of or has ever filed a police report about. People like him are what we are up against and logic won't work with these folks. Challenge them and they will find a way to turtle or turn it against you.

Yellowstone to Yukon and CPAWS are the two main groups involved behind closed doors with the government deciding which areas to shut down next to turn the entire Eastern Slopes into a system like Kananaskis. Both are funded with money outside of Canada plus have 10's of millions of dollars invested into this government to make the Eastern slopes into a system of shut in parks with limited to no access to recreational activities beyond hiking.

That's not actually concert footage. Some guy made a video with footage and played the album version with concert noise over dubbed or something like that.
