Looks good without. But going so far into the restore, maybe trying to stay the most original is worth the effort

First off passenger side looks great:fistbump:. I like the look without the flares. I run without them and if you come across some in the future than add them on. Keep up the great work.
EDIT: Chris if you are looking for some hilux parts contact this dude @T@co_Pr3runn3r he had a 82 and has a bunch of stuff. Im not sure if he still has it and willing to ship. Its worth a shot.

quick update, I'm gonna be on vacation up to North Carolina for the next week, so sadly no progress on the 80 :( BUT when I get back, im going to be going full speed ahead again! expect the next update saturday sometime!

thanks! yeah that is true, no harm in running without them. I sat there for a few minutes after the driver side ripped apart and was like...you know.....this actually looks pretty cool without the flares, lol

they are charging way too much for what ive seen, unless my searching is being a potato, I havent seen anyone that would do it for around $300 or so. one place wanted $1500......I was like, no...I'll spend 30 hours scraping and grinding before I spend that haha

Thanks lol, once I get this body done, it'll be smooth sailing from there!

Those last gen Tercels were great cars. Very durable. Really the last of the truly rugged small cars Toyota produced.

late update, got a little further on the bed thanks to the help of paint stripper. found fiberglass and the first rust hole in the bed floor itself

i know! mines a 97 and it had 7 previous owners and had 208k miles when i got it. smoked bad on startup, but she still chugged along and i fixed a lot of things on her and she is almost good to go as far as fixing things

Is that entire bed floor fiberglass screwed over metal? I see all kids of screws that aren't original.

What's the plan? Wipe out the rust, patch holes, POR15, and bed liner?

im not 100% sure at the moment. Definitely clean up the rust and patch the holes with sheet metal, from there, not too sure what to do; I would like to use POR15, but thats really supposed to be used on rusted surfaces and not clean sheet metal. From what I read it doesnt adhere properly and wont last long at all.

I have gray and black POR-15 for projects around here, it lays really flat/glossy. I just hit the surface with about 120 grit so it has some grip, and do thin coats.

ahhh ok, I didnt think about that at all. would it be good to hit it with some rust stopper from Bondo then lay down the POR15 or just clean the metal and lay the POR down
