I was commended on all of them, but I never focused on them. I focused on the ACT after I found out I was better at the ACT than the SAT

 

I will graduate HS with the regret of not trying harder on the Algebra 1 STAAR. I mastered the rest except that one. I already took the SAT. Haven't had time for the ACT.

 

Study hard and crush it!

 

Don’t worry about it. The STARR doesn’t get you into college! GPA, school/community involvement, and SAT/ ACT scores get you into school

Ugh. I don't want to take just because I know there's a chump with a Harvard degree making money each time my dumbass takes a test developed by said chump. Education is an industry bro.

It truly is. Paying 65k a year for an education is crazy. But im doing it

 

I got the hook up at UTRGV. My GPA after this year was 2.9, could be better, but I mean... I'm not trying to go to a prestigious university.

 

That's exactly what I don't want. My dad told me to choose any university on his dime, so I chose the cheapest 4 year university... UTRGV. I'm going for a batchelors in Political Science, and hopefully land a job at the USBP while I'm there.

At the end of the day, a level of education all depends on what you wish to do. Sometimes all you need is a simple degree to be successful. Nobody in my family has ever been to college. I’m a first generation college student, and my family has been very successful without having a formal education

 

If you don't mind me asking, where is your family from mate? My dad was too poor and hungry in Mexico to go to school, so he came here and worked hard. My mom studied and worked as a petroleum chemist for the Mexican government, she's now retired taking care of my grandmother. Dad is an owner operator... Fancy word for truck driver lol.

 

I worked hard enough to where I got enough scholarships to pay a very small amount each year. A close family friend of mine majored in PS, and now he works for a company in Dallas where he picks up internationals who have come to the US with VISAs. He helps set them up to have a future here, and makes great money doing it. Eventually he wants to get involved in politics and possibly run for office

 

That's great! I'm just trying to get a job at two agencies I've followed since I was a small child... United States Border Patrol, and the Texas Highway Patrol. I'm not good at math, or science, so any other career that isn't law, or politics is off the table for me.

 

90% of my family is from El Salvador. My grandparents fled the country back in the 80’s due to the civil war. Neither of my grandparents went to school or spoke English, but learned English and got their GED’s a few years ago. My grandpa opened up a shop in Dallas, and my grandma hopped around a few jobs to keep the family afloat. My mom works as a loan officer/underwriter. Dad was in the Navy and is now a Fort Worth Police officer. My family definitely went through hardships, but now we are well off and all living comfortably.
