Just put in the mileage from the odometer, cost per gallon, and gallons it takes to fill up. It does the rest for you

You see that just seems like a drag since I usually fill up at the gas station 2 minutes before class starts so that's that

Dont think in terms of worse case just yet.. first things first..

Get an actual average mpg number like joey and i are talking about, look at some trims and we'll go from there

Input the info while the gas is pumping, then all you need is the last number (which is gallons used). That will take half a second to put that in after the pump shuts off and you’re good to go

I always have bad luck with everything, and my brain has naturally always prepared me for the worst possible outcome, so I want you as a professional mechanic to tell me what's the worst thing that could be wrong with my truck

Coolant temp would be helpful to know as well, engine should get around 190-200 degs quickly and stay there. You guys didnt take the thermostat out did you?

I did overheat while stuck in traffic at the international bridge with 103 degree weather in direct sunlight... Turned off the AC and the temperature guage immediately went back down to normal

Worse case would be you'd have to take the oil cap off and park a new truck under it lol

If it sticks open the engine will run cold and cold engines burn more fuel. Usually a bad thermostat will code though.. does your cel light up key on /engine off?

Again.. the data reader will tell us if you have a thermostat problem

Borrowing a code reader for a couple days would be better, but scan it anyways if possible

They're not hard to use. you connect it, punch a couple buttons and you got data on your lap while driving around

Yeah for sure. Should I just leave it connected for a few days and drive the truck to my regular commute?

Yep just leave it plugged in. The cheapies have to be "turned on" every time you start the truck but again, its just a couple buttons

There will be a bunch of hard to read data like 02 sensor voltages and stuff but all we need is short/long trims and a few others
