I just put on a 3” OME lift with medium spring pack in the rear and SPC UCAs. I took it to an alignment shop afterwards. I explained they’d probably have to adjust the uppers and left instructions to do so. They said they got it within “specs” which according to their sheet they did. When driving home if felt ok and steering wheel was nice and straight but I noticed sometimes if you hit a bump just right it would pull as well as intermittently with the brake. The wife took it on the highway last night and said once or twice it felt like a gust of wind pushed the truck but there was no wind. I’m pretty new to modding IFS but know my old jeep had the “death wobble” a bit after building that 10 or so years back. Is that what this is or do you guys think it should go back in for another alignment? Still running stock tires for now if that matters. Thanks

Generally, after a lift you can lose a bit of Caster. Can you post the alignment sheet so we can see what they did?

I too am curious to see. I’m also curious if they used a Hunter, and how it’s calibrated. I’ve seen them fall out and lead to misreads.

Here you go. It looks as though I was out of spec to begin with. I did notice the outside edge of both fronts were starting to chop slightly when I was installing the lift with just under 15k on the odometer. Any insight would be appreciated.

Yup caster is low so it will cause it to be more touchy at high speeds.

The shop clearly didn't want to mess with the SPC arms.

I just did a 4runner SPC the other day and I had it dialed to 4.5 degrees of caster, no complaints from owner.

You should have minimum 2.2, but shoot for over 2.5 This translates to much better ride and handling at higher speeds.

If you go bigger tires later on I usually go 3-4 on tacoma.

It’s going to be very touchy with that low of caster and positive camber with a lift. There are some techs around here who can give you really good advice.

    what tires are you running?
    any wheel spacers?

For reference I’m up to about 3.2 caster, 0.1 camber because light intermittent wind gusts took a lot of active corrections near 2.5 caster and a bit higher camber (2.5” lift with 265/75r16).

edit: I will probably go up around 3.6 caster next alignment to make long trips easier when it’s windy

Stock tires 265/70/16s no spacers. Was looking to go up to a 285 after the holidays. Kind of a mom n pop place as I’m in rural maine and there’s no off rd shops this way. They said to bring it back if I wanted anything changed which I think I will just not sure if they’d be willing to go too far out of “spec”. I appreciate the input.

I agree with above. Caster is a hair low.

I only did a 1" lift and I still had to bring it back to the shop for repeat caster work. Low caster makes you wonder if you suddenly caught a case of the stupid and can't keep it in the lane anymore.

I brought it back to the shop and the guys were awesome. I told them I had adjustments I wanted it set to and they were happy to do what I asked. They also weren’t afraid of tweaking the SPC uppers either and mentioned that the adjustability of them made the alignment that much easier. I don’t have a pic of my alignment sheet handy but if I recall the right side is set to 2.8+ and the left is around 2.7. Handles our crowned roads great and tracks down the highway between the lines like it should. I was worried after reading about other posters experiences with shops not willing to adjust the uppers but theses guys didn’t disappoint. Next step will be swapping out the needle bearing and ditch the diff drop. Hoping it can wait until spring when it warms up a bit, I don’t have heat in the garage yet.
    Thanks for the input.
