    Good to know!

So no signs of the trans learning it's old habits? Curious to know if this eliminates the "learning mode" of the trans.

Your controller will not revert from this update. This is a permanent software update for the ECM.

    1000 Mile Update;

    Pros: Harsh shift 1-2 gone.

Cons: Gas mileage when from 17.5 to 12 average.
Stubble, hesitation, whatever you call it at steady speed is still there.
    Cruise control SUCKS!!!!!

Counterintuitive to getting the update, I just started driving the automatic in manual mode. It puts it in S4 when I first shift over and from what I can tell the mapping has been readjusted to compensate for the missing two gears. It is a different animal under 50. Between 50-70 I bump it up to S5 and the mapping seems to accommodate missing 6th just like in S4 at lower speeds. Less to no downshifts on hills, etc. Turning ECT on with S4 is also a pleasant experience. I have no idea why I didn’t mess with this earlier.

Also, highway trip at 75-80 returned 19.8 mpg in normal D. So kind of best of both worlds. I’m leaving the update out for now.

For what it's worth, I ended up having the harsh shifting from 2 to 1 after getting update 58-18. It's like someone bumps you from behind. I didn't have the problem before the update.

What are you getting in town doing this? My mpg is awful in town, 14 mpg, and my truck is all stock.

15.1-15.5. I drive no highway miles during the week. Top speed of 45. HVAC on 1 and Max AC in the morning and 3 and Max AC in the evening. 14 miles round trip. Maybe 5-6 lights.

I think I can easily crack low 20s on the highway by keeping it under 75 but you know, Texas. Drove to Seguin from San Antonio where the speed limit was 75 so I was 75-80 when I was getting 19.8. Unloaded bed with wife and kids as passengers.

And tires are stock and always around 29 psi.

So after reading just about every response to this thread, I am still confused as to whether this update is the answer. I just bought the vehicle a week ago and this shifting/transmission issue is turning this major purchase into a nightmare for me. I cant believe a vehicle that costs this much money drives so horrible. So far, our feedback from this recent update is that it ONLY fixes the rough shift from 1 to 2, the "drag" feeling is still there at steady speeds, and the gas mileage gets worse. Yet, others say that it fixes it all. I guess Ill wait and see before I update. Meanwhile, Please confirm - can we "uninstall" this update if it doesnt work like we want? Thanks in advance for any help/advice you can offer.
. . .and while Im in "rant mode", does anyone else find it odd that the Tocomas dont have the lights come on automatically? Every vehicle I have had since 2002 has had this feature. With Toyota's name, I bought this vehicle in good faith thinking it would be solid. SO many more things I could say - can anyone give me some hope? Lol.
ADDED: Is it possible to return this vehicle? whats the time limit? Lemon Law?

I've had my truck for about two weeks. I got the trans update. While it does shift more smoothly now, I'm getting hard shifts from 2 to 1 that I didn't have previously. It's like i'm getting bumper bumped from behind.

I'm feeling much like you are at the moment. As are many others. I've also got the howling rear differential. The rear diff TSB did not fix it. If you have a TRD OR, you should watch out for it. I'm fairly disgusted, to be honest.

My ECU update made a huge difference. The truck performs like it should now. My rear differential whine is probably 75% better post TSB. Overall I’m happy but do agree there needs to be a permanent across the board fix for the whining rear differential.

I see you have a 2017 and NMTrailRider has a 2018. The update appears to work on yours but not on his.
