Yes, slower but also a bigger hole and therefore less efficient. Many 45 cans are shot wet to reduce the noise, and few 45 ACP cans are considered hearing safe when shot dry. A 147 or 158 gr 9mm bullet through a 9mm can will be significantly quieter than a 230 gr 45 ACP bullet through a 45 can assuming both are subsonic, which they would be at normal loads.
A supersonic 115 gr 9mm would be louder due to the sonic crack.

I wish they would do a .45 Osprey vs 9mm Osprey comparison but here is a comparison shooting the 300 AAC Blackout. The 9mm can was only 1.24% quieter.

For my money and time the .45 suppressor is the way to go also keep in mind if you do shoot .45acp "most" off the shelf .45 ammo is subsonic were as with 9MM you will need to do some searching to find subsonic.

I have a 9mm Brugger & Thormet Impuls II suppressor and knowing what I know now I would have gotten a .45 can. Take it or leave it just my .02.

    Happy Shooting!!! :)

If you ever make it out to Utah come on by we can take all my NFA toys out and have good time :) Hopefully soon I get my paperwork back on my Mac 10 & Bowers suppressor.

Have you ever shot a 45 ACP suprpessed dry? I have not. Curious what you think about it. I watched these vids. My concern obviously is that I don't have a place to shoot before I buy.

Something else to think about - if you throw out the first round pop which is something like 20dB more powerful than the other pressure levels, you get an average of 126.75dB for 9mm through the osprey. That's 3.4dB less than the 45. Assuming the general rule that 3dB = a power factor of 2 on the "relative" noise scale, I can only assume that the 45 is about twice as loud as 9mm to the average ear.

The SWR Octane 9mm can rates around the same noise level as the Osprey 45 or a little less, but with much less first round pop. $150 less than the Octane, plus I'd be paying another $100 for the 9mm Osprey attachment up front (since 9mm is my main goal anyway). I just don't think I can justify the extra.

I dunno, mind's not made up yet. We'll see how I feel after payday. :D

I have not shot a 45 ACP dry. I’m not sure were you are in Missouri butsome Class III dealers will have samples you can try before you buy I think Gateway Tactical in Saint Louis may have some demo cans.

    http://www.gatewaytactical.com/contact

While I don’t own a Silencerco suppressor I’m a big fan oft he low profile design and would be shocked if they didn’t let you order a .45 suppressorwith threads specific to a your 9MM pistol. But if you don’t think you will ever want to suppress anything larger than a 9MM get a 9MM can. When I got my 9mm B&T can I didn’t think I would ever want a .45 can.

I just ordered a 9mm Bowers Vers9 and they let me choose the insert I wanted to come with the suppressor. This can is for a Full Auto 9MM MAC 10. I’m going to run on the stock MAC 10 upper and a Lage MAX 10 upper. This suppressor is way to big to cycle on astandard pistol.

Also keep in mind unless you are shooting something like one of the HK tactical pistols with raised sights standard pistol sights are not tall enough to see over the standard round suppressor

Hmmm....now I'm thinking AAC TiRant 45, mostly for use on the 9mm. I like the titanium construction and user serviceability. I also like the concentric design more than the accentric Silencerco Osprey.

Anyone want to talk me off the ledge before I talk to my dealer?

Do it :) AAC makes some great stuff and user serviceability is very important.

    You won't be disappointed.

    :D

Today's forecast calls for a SWR Octane HD 9. I thought and thought about it, and the purpose of the can really is for 9mm. The Octane 9 meters in the high 120db range dry, and in the low 120 range dry. That, coupled with the fact that a TiRant is 33% more expensive plus I'd have to put out another $75 immediately for a 9mm can piston if I went with a TiRant in 45...I dunno. We'll see after payday.

Here is my latest acquisition - crappy bed/camera phone pic.
Usually most of my bed/camera phone pics are not of guns, but....o well

AAC M4-2000 on a Noveske 10.5 switchblock upper.

After I shot it for the first time, I nearly packed up my other AR's and took them to goodwill - poor things aren't gonna get shot that much.

Is there a long ass wait for every suppressor you buy or is it after you go through the approval once they have everything on file so it doesn't take as long?

Just thought I would bump this thread and let everybody know I put my money on the AAC SDN-762-6. Finally chose and ponied up.

Cool. You'll like it I'm sure. Wish it ws available when I ordered my 762SD. Mounted an AAC brake tonight actually. If you need a 5/8x24 brake Midway has them right now...mine was backordered for 2 months before I got it today.

So what's the differnce length? I honestly himd and hawed for a long time prob would even have it by now. This is my 1st can. I still got like a week before it gets to the dealer and we can start my paperwork. I'm gunna be shooting it on my 5.56 AR for awhile. I'm gunna do a SBR build on it to and run a 10.5"

The sdn6 is about 1.5" shorter I think. Plus it's all inconel. I think it rates a db or 2 louder but you'll never be able to tell at the ear. I'm thinking about the mini4 now as my next can, after I saw some tests that showed that most cans still rate 140 or so at the ear on an AR due to ejection port and bolt noise.

It's the old SWR Spectre. It's been slightly redesigned since I bought this one.
