the class action lawsuit was settled in June of 2017, so the final resolution is only about 9-10 months old.
I guess, theoretically, if you had gone to a Toyota dealer between January and May in 2017, they would have said there is not an active recall I'm not sure how things worked back then, but I've heard of people getting their 2nd gen frames replaced as early as 2014, through 2016. From the experiences I've gathered, I don't think there was a widespread recall, but it was processed case by case. I.E. if you went into the dealership with a gaping hole in your frame, the dealer would send pictures to Toyota Corporate and corporate would say "yeah...give the guy a new frame." Where as now, it's a documented, on-the-books process. Also, prior to the lawsuit being settled, I know some people paid for a new frame out of pocket, and part of the lawsuit is to reimburse those people.

Again, I'm really not certain how it worked back then. If I had to guess, I would say there wasn't an official protocol and it varied dealer by dealer. Also, some of the frames replaced might have legitimately been under the original warranty given with the truck. Like the "3 years bumper-to-bumper warranty, 5 years power train, 8 years corrosion" that some cars come with. I have no idea if the Tacomas had an original warranty of that sort, I'm just speculating ideas as to how someone could have gotten their frame replaced in 2015.

Not a rust issue. Not covered by the Warantee Enhancement Program.

Nor that you mention this again .... are the loose grounds/wires due to the engine pull - i.e. not put back together correctly??? Thatn would explain a lot.

ya the shops wanted around 4K to pull the motor and weld the kit they make for the weak Toyota frames. It’s right by the motor mounts. So I had a mechanic friend pull the motor to have another guy weld the frame. Apparently the mechanic friend didn’t tighten down a couple ground wires very well. But I found them and tightened them down and it’s back to running great again. Wish I knew about the second generation weak frames before I bought it... but it is what it is. Frame is holding up good and truck is running great again.
