Hey all, This is a long post......I have a 2017 DCSB Sport with just under 31,000 miles. Have had zero issues with it. This past Fri I was running errands, so truck was shut down and re-started several times. Last stop was finished, started truck and check engine light came on with Trac-off light. Turned off the truck, waited a few, started, lights still on and now idle started surging from about 1000 rpm to so low engine almost died. Called hubby, and while he was on his way I called my Toyota dealer service dept. (No help other than offered to make an appointment... ) Hubby arrived, I started the truck, lights still on but idle was good, so decided to try to drive it home. As soon as I gave it gas, it tried to die. So headed back to the parking lot, and then it did die as soon as I accelerated. Discovered if I feathered the gas pedal it would keep running, sort of. Parked it in the first parking space, locked it up and went home. Sat morning called AAA for tow and had it taken to Toyota. Got a call from service advisor yesterday and he said it took them a while to figure out what was going on, but it seems all 6 injectors are bad and they will be replacing them..... Neither my husband or myself nor any knowledgeable friends have ever heard of all the injectors going bad at the same time, esp with NO prior indications. Truck was running normal before it was shut off. Opinions? (other than Toyota is just guessing?)

My guess it’s the cps sensor gone bad. Just can’t understand why all 6 injectors going bad in a new truck

Seems highly unlikely. Generally service writers are not mechanics but they are good at coming up with stories.

That would certainly make more sense.... or maybe even a fuel injector pump....

Be nice to know what those codes were b4 the dealer got their hands on it. All injectors at the same time doesn't sound right.

Low pressure fuel pump, it's ECU, harness, or even HPFP.

    CKP on ignition side..

    Need the codes lol

What I find confusing is... Your truck has 12 injectors. What about the other 6?

Bad fuel injectors don't throw a code.

That dealer is shooting parts and blowing smoke.

    Please keep us informed.

    A very good point.

Watching the proper PIDs with techstream, unless the truck is in it's DI "cleaning mode" the injectors being used at hot idle are port (makes sense).

That may be true, but you'd probably set codes as a result of bad injectors. Missfire count for one.

The only "bad" injectors I've seen are leaky injectors. Those symptoms were not reported by the OP.

The problem is going to be an electrical issue. Anything else would have produced some previous symptoms.

    I'm leaning towards the CSP.

As others have already said, it's highly unlikely that it's ALL the injectors. More than likely the CPS

So I’m guessing this will all be covered by warranty so let them throw a bunch of new parts on it till they fix it. Good luck, hope they fix it quick for you.

Good news is that it's under warranty.

You'll find out soon enough whether or not it's the injectors.

Fortunately it’s under warranty they say.... if it wasn’t, it would be taken to a regular mechanic...

you should also have Toyota towing included in the factory warranty period, just an FYI, replaced my CPS just in case, but never heard of all 6 going bad? maybe one?

What you're describing is classic symptoms of the Crankshaft Position Sensor failure. If you look at the service manual, you'll see that without this sensor working properly, your truck can't actually tell how fast your engine is spinning (RPMs) which of course in turn affects ignition and fueling. Mine was dumping ridiculously rich at times then super lean at others before I replaced mine (also on a '17) and the dealer was clueless. Glad I just replaced it on my own before something like this happened. $100 part and 10 mins of your time if the dealer doesn't figure it out

This is exactly your problem OP... I would change service centers when your warranty runs out as this one has no clue or is setting you up for unnecessary expenses in the future.

Don't know about anyone else but I wouldn't feel all that comfortable with them replacing 6 factory installed injectors after coming up with a lame diagnosis as that... all six at once doesn't happen... surprised they didn't blame the carburetor.
