I got a regular key without any buttons, just bare metal key and had it cut to work the doors. Well, I hate to carry a big ol fat, bulky glob of keys in my pocket so I taped the original key up under the dash next to the ignition and to my surprise the metal still would not start the truck. I would grind all day but wouldnt start. Is there a fix for that?

I could never get a plain key to work to start the truck even holding the chipped key next to the switch.

So you got this flip key to work using this same procedure?

I have an 07 with the Dot key. I made sure to get the switchblade that had the Dot style blank key attached to it. There is a video on YouTube I used to program the new fob. Once I had that working I took the switchblade and had the blank cut. I also had to cut open my OEM Toyota key and remove the chip and place it into the new switchblade fob. With the chip installed I tested it and it's been working fine for over several months now.

    Video to program fob:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3qt8iJ8tDD8

    Video to remove chip:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R610pJxUJAA

I didn't cut my key open down the center like the video. I cut around the outside and peeled it in half to remove the chip. This way if I want to reuse the OEM key I can put the chip back in and glue the black shell over top.

I read some of the comments from the video of the FOB programming. Some stated it worked for their 15 so I would think it should work for you as well. Having the key cut shouldn't be an issue but only thing I would be unsure about is the G coded version and it's chip.
What I did as I was unsure if it would work for my truck was to program the fob first. Once that worked I had the blank cut and once again, tested to make sure it fit and worked. Once all that worked I cut open my OEM key and placed the chip into the switchblade and tested. The fob was $40 so in the event it didn't program or work I was only out $40 and I hadn't sacrificed my Toyota key yet.

Gotcha...I thought like me, you wanted to convert one of your OEM keys to a flipkey fob. If you want to add an additional key/switchblade then you will need to have the chip in the new key programmed to your truck. Programming the fob to unlock/lock the doors will be same as the video. Or should be.

Bringing this back, I was able to successfully accomplish this. 2009 TRD Sport with factory antitheft, I ordered the pictured key from eBay, didn't need the chipped version as the locksmith I went to cloned one of my master keys and installed the cloned transponder. Been working great since July.

I’m curious what would happen if I tried to have the 4 button all in one programmed to my 14 Tacoma.. I can’t find the 3 button with the correct fcc. I’d like to use one with a ajt case, which comes with a blank for the trunk button anyways

Which clone transponder did you use?

I'm not sure, I took it to an independent locksmith I found online here in SF - the guys at Ace Hardware and Home Depot were of no help. They provided me a new transponder chip, cut the key, and put it all together. I could have used the transponder the key came with, but they would have had to program it into my truck. Everything working flawlessly!

Thanks for this, just ordered one for my 06. Do they have the transponder/immobilizer chip in them?
