Ok , just wanted to be crystal clear on things - thanks for that . So , if I get a flip key with no chip - I just transfer my chip over and have the key cut ?

Did you PM him and say "I'll take one..." ?

If not, your bad. If so, maybe you got the last one.

Try to tone the rage down over a simple lapse of attention.

No , rage is Toyota's fukn keys - my old Dakota had a simple single key , worked fine . No wonder I like my nearly 39yr old Land Cruiser - it was designed with some intelligence .

I had tried to ask a couple simple questions , mostly about getting the key cut since most locksmiths around here haven't got a clue about handling that type of blank - let alone the brain-dead local dealers . I honestly would prefer a flip key but it's not a big deal - just want to lose the stupid remote . And btw - in this day and age of the younger generation being so smart with electronics why hasn't someone figured out a single unlock command for all 4 doors ? Almost all automakers allow for a simple program change to unlock all at once - except Toyota on these trucks . Now they release the "new" one - bet it still has the gas-guzzling 4.0 that knocks/ticks , breaks springs and rots frames....if they actually listened to owners and fixed just a few things they would own the entire market .

I'm about ready for something else , still haven't heard back from the dealer about the frame or rear springs - so now it sits as a 4500lb paperweight .

    Rant off - happy ?

Don't know, don't know how that's relevant to neneago's thread, don't know what else to tell you.

Except neneago is a good dude, and emphasis on A good dude, he's one guy. He has a full time job that isn't sitting on TW replying to PMs and answering thread replies immediately, either. If he has 20 PMs and everybody asks questions, try as he might not everybody is going to get an immediate reply. However, he was clear in his outline of how to transition from interested poster to ordering customer. Again, if you said you'd take one and he blew you off, chances are someone else committed before you did and pulled the last flip key for themselves. I don't think he'd otherwise care to screw you out of his product, what does that benefit him? You showed up late to the party and missed out on a deal. No need to rage about it, especially if you're raging about shit that has nothing to do with anything in this thread.

In the end, feelings aside (even misplaced ones..), money talks and bullshit walks.

Wow , had to go there , eh ?
Wasn't the point , just wanted a key instead of this cluster of crap that Toyota seems to think is great .
And btw - most of the issue was trying to wade through all the posts on this subject and figure out exactly what works - it's irritating .

I'm sure he's a helluva guy - has to be to take on this project in the first place - been there , done that and would never attack a vendor's character . Just pissed me off as I was trying to get one that fits in the pocket at work , instead of getting bent up like my 3rd stock key - which is getting pretty expensive .

Money talks , bs walks ? I paid cash for this truck . Nuff said ...

I figured they would go quick , questions are my own fault for not getting enough board time to read all of the information - again no big deal .

That said , opinions on strength and quality of a flip key ? Worth it or not ? I work construction - non-friendly jobs that destroy things , like keys ....

For all the BS neneago has taken outta peerunner, and peerunner still hasn't bought one for himself, I'd say he's an all right dude even if I hadn't met him and dealt with him in person, ... and peerunner has good words for him too, that carries some weight rat thur.

For anyone on the fence, neneago cut my key and programmed it for an additional $20 only. And spur of the moment made up a key for my wife's Element too. He's got it together, even if his day job is ..... Ooops, almost gave it away!

To answer your question, flip keys generally are not strong designs. They break at the pivot, as you're putting a lot of stress on that area when you turn your ignition. The pivot is oriented opposite of the torque applied to it when you do this, and eventually it fails, usually it's the key itself that breaks and not the pivot pin, but that isn't important.

Flip keys are not what you're looking for, IMO. Neneago has similar feelings to my own re: flip keys.

    Now , that's funny ....

He did say his chips were weaker than the factory ones and his programmed chip may not work - that's a great heads-up and much appreciated . Wish more vendors were up front in that matter .
If another batch comes up , I'm in for two - how's that work for everyone ?

Well , it's a matter of picking a poison - in my line of work my truck sits in very unfriendly areas and must be locked - but keeping the keys in my pocket and rolling around under pipes or in the bowls of a Nuke they get bent and eventually won't work . The biggest issue is the size/length of the stock key . I'm on #3 now and it's not looking too great . Wish someone would make one like a pocket knife of sorts and beefy shank that is durable . Like my old Cruiser durable...
