Well his all in one key is much longer than the OEM key, as it incorporates fob controls into the key itself. I'm not aware of an option that matches your needs in whole, but maybe in the mean time you consider removing the key from your pocket while working? String it on some paracord or something and put around your neck? Put it in your boot sock?

Not ideal, but 10 cents of cordage and you'll save a key from needing replacement after bending in your pocket. I'd get creative.

    Stock for now...
I've tried a lot of things like that - original key ended up in a crusher , #2 key was in my lunchbox when a tandem driver ran it over - drove the key into the asphalt in pieces . This seems to be a trend with automakers - those keys just keep getting bigger . I mostly drive the Cruiser to work , tough to hurt that thing and most people can't figure out how to start it anyway .

I wasn't aware his key was longer than an original - the pictures look like the handle portion is the only difference - not length overall which would not work . I either gotta figure something out or get rid of the truck . Tired of paying for new keys to be made/programmed and the key/fob design of their original is a joke .

Tried looking up strong car keys, found none. So Weber I'd consider strongly moving the key out of your pocket to somewhere that won't be bent and twisted constantly (like a boot sock?) or pick up a Hitch Safe or something for your key to go in. Not sure where these rough areas are that nukes are planted in, but nonetheless, chances are where there's nukes there's cameras. If someone wants to steal your rig then it'll get taken, for the cost of 3 key replacements you could buy a Hitch Safe (assuming you have a receiver).

Flip key definitely isn't the way for you to go, though.

I believe the shank is the same length as OEM and the fob portion is larger than the OEM rubber area, but I'll let him answer that as I have only best guesses.

Maybe you should re-key the Tacoma to match the Cruiser key, and remove the transponder and put it elsewhere like Skygear (member on TW) has done. In fact, you might scroll back a few pages and see his key setup, maybe that'll be something you can do as an option. His key is minimal.

Like I've said many times before... I don't see the big deal of flip keys. Usually more bulky and more stuff on them to break.

A question on that please? The transponder just need to be in the truck, or close to the ignition switch, or how far away works?

Transponder has to be about 1“ or closer to the ignition.

No. Don't get confused. I use OEM chips.

You wanted to send me your key to copy it. That will require me to program the key onto a CLONE chip. Clone chips have weaker antennas.

Oem chips require self programming(some models) OR connecting computer to car.

His transponder is elsewhere so his kids can't start his truck.

When you Start the truck. On my 05 the immobilizer doesn't check again once it is started.

Now that's some interesting info ....

The keys are getting destroyed mostly on Heavy Highway jobs , or when doing pipe bores and welding casing pipe . I work a really wide variety and sometimes end up near some of the cities -hence the truck being locked all the time . Not to mention , many times I'm 20+ miles away from it with a crew somewhere . We get a ride to wherever we could park our vehicles , sometimes they even get vandalized and one had been stolen - he left his keys in the nearly-new car , dumb .

The weak nature of the flip key is understandable and I agree not a decent solution . So far , best way has been to remove the remote lock fob from the key and keep that smaller part in my pocket and leave the key somewhere in the truck . But , it's been a pain and just looking for a simpler key design . May just try his standard 3-button version since it looks to be close enough in size and at least beefy enough . Two of those is way cheaper than 1 key from the dealer - what the heck ....

Sarge.... Stand by on the flip key. Will get new design next week. I'll test it and send you out a unit for you to test FREE. Your the perfect candidate to test the new design.
