All In one Remote Key GQ43VT20T

Anyone have a spare flip key they bought but never got cut or programmed and don't want, pm me. He doesn't know when he'll get more stock in.

 

Got 2 all in one keys. Good quality. My only complaint is the distance that they transmit is about half of the factory remote.

I discovered an issue and hope it saves someone a lot of headaches. My Taco is a 2005 Gulf states one with their add on alarm with the little red valet light/switch to the left of the steering wheel. The fob has GQ4 as the first of the FCC number. After trying unsuccessfully, more times than I can count to program a new fob, I thought the instructions were either wrong or didn't apply to my truck. It turns out the instructions are correct, but the problem is that my truck has a lot of use and the ignition switch is worn enough that when just putting the key in the ignition, it is not recognized. I figured out that holding some upward tension on the key after inserting it caused the security light on the dash to go off. Once I discovered this and made sure the light went off each time the key was inserted, it programmed the first time. I also saw on another thread where a broken hood alarm switch was causing the alarm to think the hood was open, causing the system to not go into program mode. Not in my case, but something to check before taking to stealer. BTW, this also causes a no start sometimes too. I am going to get a new key cut to see if this solves the problem, as the old one is very worn.

 

Get a new key cut at the dealer by using your vin. Tell them you just want a generic key, no programming and nothing fancy. All you really need is the NEW cuts to copy from.

 

Eventually they will add smart keys to the Tacoma. I'm currently working on cloning one smart key onto another. Doing a mail order smart key service.

In the mean time I can reset the used smart keys.

For anyone wondering in the Denver area. I was able to get my remote cut, paired and programmed at Mountain States Toyota. They charge based on labor, about 1 hour. They said they had a little problem getting it to paired initially, not sure how true that is (or if they just wanted to justify rounding up to an hour of labor). Anyways, it was just convenient for me to have them do it as they were doing other maintenance work at the same time.

Takes about 5 minutes to cut and program...

 

Some local locksmiths quoted around $80, I ended paying $100+. Definitely not a deal, but it's done and working and I've got a lot else going on right now (getting ready to move cross country). So, I just let it go, my time right now isn't worth fighting over $20-$30. But, to your point, I know it can be done cheaper. So, just giving local folks some info to help with their decision making.
