My truck only had 1 key when I got it, so I went to the local Toyota dealer to have a dup made. I also ordered a remote key fob off the internet and programmed it myself to open the doors and tailgate lock. The dealer quoted me 1hr labor to make the key but needed me to make an appointment and drop off the truck for 1/2 day. They provided shuttle service back and forth. The quote was around $150. After they had it for 5 hours I stopped by while out running errands to see what was going on. Turns out the key I had was not the "master key". In order to make a master key they needed to reflash some computer. New price was $250. Go ahead I said. They called me later in the day and said their tech was having issues flashing the computer and they needed to keep it overnight. Got it back the next day and everything worked.

It may only take 5 minutes to cut and program a key, but you have to get in line with everyone else, I doubt the dealer is only going to charge 5 minutes of labor time and you never know what the hell is going to go wrong!

I had a customer get a key made at lexus for $1200....
He was so pissed when he called me and I quoted him $90. Too bad he had already paid Lexus

That's why I always tell people to call around.

Last shipment and today's shipment had a mix of the upgraded circuit board and the original. The new circuit board has a stronger antenna(according to engineer).
I had a customer with the original and the new one and he claims the new can go through two walls and the original can barely go through one.
    I haven't done test...

The strip you see on the edges is the antenna. On the original is only a small strip on the right.

Got mine programmed and cut today, the first locksmith nearly screwed things up but it was salvageable. I love having my key and fob all in one unit.

Are you finally getting one? I have a couple. I think manufacture is mixing batch in order to get rid of the old design. Eventually all I will have is new design.

Great!! Doing all work out of my home office. Still go out to do keys but primarily just to test out new equipment/keys.
