Not to mention the directions don't mention removing them at all either... And now after reviewing the info in this busy thread, everyone seems to have very different tolerances in the spacing. I can tel you, if I remove the braces and just mount the bumper as described, it would totally push up my fenders/headlights not to mention, not being able to possibly fully seat.

I love that pic Silverback07! That front one looks mighty tough. The pics on your build thread were my inspiration for the bumper!

With 245/75R16 wheels, my truck looks silly, great, now I gotta get new tires and while I'm getting new tires, might as well get new rims... Damn this is an expensive hobby!

No... but why you would leave that part of your truck exposed while increasing the angle of attack is beyond me.

No, the stock skid plate won't work with the All Pro bumper. However, it's pretty much a worthless piece of sheet metal anyway. I think they should rename it from a "skid plate" to a "protect-me-from-a-little-loose-gravel plate".

OK. I've read this entire thread and have a couple of questions.
    1. What were the size of the washers recommended? I think I'll buy them "just incase"
    2. Is anyone in the VA area down for an install? I won't name anyone by name, but Fire's truck looks really nice :)
    3. I checked the Tacoma Tech on All Pro's website and only saw the instructions for the 98-00 trucks. Does anyone have a read ahead link for the install?

Thanks for all of the great information. Now I need to add the skid plate... more money...

I just bought 10 1/2 in washers (stainless) and I'm re-putting my bumper on in an hour. It's to use at the bottom so I can set height exactly where I want it (and not too high)

the skid plate is just as important as the high clearance bumper itself..probably more important to have...just my 2cents worth. another 2cents worth...when adjusting the bumper for the final clearance while on the taco..get it as low as you can, who cares about trying to get it high for a clean look...remember..the frame flexes and it flexes quite a bit. i had mine adjusted for a 1/4" gap all the way around and it still rubbed on the fenders. Fire931 has a good idea with using weather stripping to place in between the bumper and everything else to help close that gap, get with him on that..

you should take him up on that offer, 2 hands are better then one..and, he's familiar with the actual bumper

it's on. I used 4 washers at the bottom, plus one one the outside.

if you want to go at the lowest setting, you will need more half inch washersé

I was told that the bumpers would be shipped in about 3-3.5 weeks. I got the lights from a google search and they're already on the way. The plan is to call All Pro today to add the skid plate to the order. I'll send you a PM when I get tracking numbers and I won't be in too big of a hurry to get this thing on, so I'll do my best to be flexible to see if we can meet up after it arrives. If you can't make it over for the install, I completely understand... but if you could make it, that would be so very awesome!

    A few bolts are different.
so would the spacer washers in there reduce the winching strength of the bumper?

Well, when you sit the bumper, there is a gap between the frame rail and the bumper. If you don't put washers, when torquing the bolts at the bottom, you will either pull the bumper up or bend the bottom part.

For the winch torque, everything you can do to brace it is good. They now supply two metal brackets to help the top part from moving forward.

One update: I called AP today to add the IFS Skid Plate to my order and spoke again to Terry. I asked him about AP modifying the front bumper and he knew nothing about it. He placed me on hold, asked someone else, came back and told me the following: AP has modified the next batch of front bumpers to add more clearance around the headlights and fender areas. He said that people have reported issues with the bumper hitting the truck due to the truck flexing under some conditions. I'm still going to buy the washers, but I hope to not need them now.
