i have a 2003 Tacoma trd OR xtracab. I want to run some trail armor for weekend camping trips and was leaning towards the all pro tube Baja style series bumper for protection that is not to heavy. Not planing on putting a winch yet, so can I get away with stock suspension without major problems with ride quality? I believe the bumper is approx 70lbs. Thanks for the help.

I guess it all depends if you Road race your Truck and any change in weight effects the way it handles .

On my 2000 I have the Old Smitty Built Tube bumper I forget what Warn Winch running Stock Suspension .

If the handling is different I don`t drive fast enough to notice .

Having a Payload most often worth a few thousand $$$ I drive very conservative

No road racing, just daily driving and weekend camping and off-roading trips. Not rock crawling either. Just some protection driving over logs, rocks and stumps while off-road.

Any way you go with a bumper and full skids you're going to be adding some weight. An aluminum bumper and skids would be the only way you'll save an appreciable amount of weight, but the tradeoff will of course be the protection you get from them.

I'm looking at the trail gear bumper because it allows you to choose what skids you want to go with. All-pro is only compatible with their skids so if you're alright with that then good go for it, but if you want choices in skids then don't go with the all-pro.

I totally understand that anything but oem is going to add weight, my questions is with the added weight of the all pro tube bumper since it’s not as heavy as plated bumpers. Will I still need to upgrade my suspension or will my ride suffer? I am not using a winch right now, just want to install the bumper. I just bought some method NV wheels with off road tires and a full suspension upgrade is not in the budget at the moment. But I want to have at least some armor.

25lb difference isn't going to make a big difference between the all-pro and a plate bumper like the arb. Again I'd be more concerned about what skids you want to run than a few lbs up front. Just get some stiffer coils if your front end is nose diving or sagging.

Its 25-30 lbs difference. Imagine that as 3-4 gallons of fuel. You wont notice it.

Just to be clear, we are talking about ~25lbs difference between a plate bumper and the All-pro tube bumper.

In other words, yes, you'll likely want to beef up your suspension with proper weighted springs.

Tube bumpers really are only (in general) that much lighter than plate bumpers?? I expected the difference to be more significant.

Trail Gear tube bumper is 90-95lbs
ARB plate bumper is the same
All-pro says 65 for their tube bumper
    Some plate bumpers weigh more.
