Anyone else having extreme rust on their expedition leaf packs? I've owned mine for just over a year and they're pure rust. I've only driven my truck 15000 km with them, park in a covered garage and live in a temperate climate with no snow. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Did you ever take that pic? Is it surface rust or is it eating them away? Have you contacted All-pro?

any word on the rust issue? I put an order in, but they took my money before telling me they were out of stock.. Would a can of paint clean em up or is the rust really bad?

    A few bolts are different.
Lol all pro. Everything made by them seems to get oxide aids eventually.

On a serious note, most leaf springs do eventually gather at least surface rust.

Mine are about a year, normal amount of rust on them. It looks bad but it's not. Just wire wheel them good and spray paint them and you should be fine.

    All leaf springs rust.

My Dakars came to me brand new rusty.

It doesn't affect immediate performance so who cares? By the time they rust through they will most likely be shot anyway if you wheel allot so it's a mute point.

If you want a show truck get them blasted and powder coated.

My previous set of springs were on for 6 years and 60,000 miles and were in better shape then these at one year. So accepting mediocrity is not something I do. I expected a little more...

Maybe the guys in the Indonesian labor camps were having a bad day when it was time to powder coat? :notsure:

Not to bash AP, but that's why I buy nothing from them. I don't even put their name close to the top of my recommended fabricators/suppliers list.

In another couple weeks I will have removed any/every part I ever ordered from them for better products and I only ever bought two items from them

Mine are 2 years old and I only have VERY minor surface rust. Sucks it isn't consistent with other folks

Mine are super frigain rusty and my truck is garaged most of the time. I even Rustoleum'd them before I put them on because they were shipped with the shipping sticker just stuck on them and thrown in a truck...so they were mucho chipped up. I like them for what they are, they ride pretty rough with your bed empty, but even a small load smooths them out, and they do nicely level your truck if you have spindles.

Hmmm... I've had the APEX expedition springs on for oh, at least 7 months now. Death Valley, SALINE valley, Mojave, AZ, UT, NV...

Light rust. LIGHT. Even if they were covered in surface rust like my Dakars were by the end, it does not affect performance one bit.

    YMMV.

I have the standards and they are pretty rusty.. Haven't have any squeaking or issues with them though. Leafs do get the full force of the elements. Salt, water, snow, dirt, dust, and pretty much anything else that can get to them. Definitely not abnormal to see the surface rust. I have heard of all pro having a bit of a reputation with rust on the leaf springs but its gonna happen to any brand IMO

My experience with AP has been polar opposite. And I'm pretty sure that their springs are made by Betts either:

    A. In NorCal
    B. India on contract

    Depending on the order.

India BTW, makes a good portion of the OEM leaf springs in the world (yup) because they are the best. Better than USA made, less defects, less QC issues and returns.

How do I know this? Because many of them long time rock crawlers and baja racers prefer the Indian made springs on their own rigs.

I'm all about made in USA gents, but our mfg is not what it once was nor is our steel industry (thanks economy, EPA and .gov BS) so give credit where credit is due. We do after all, drive Toyotas ;)
