In the last picture it looks like you've mounted a Yakima crossbar to the rack. Is so, what did you use to mount the crossbar to the 1.5" tubing?

I have a pack rack, that I purchased to haul kayaks. I've cut the rack to be cab high, maybe slightly lower. My plan was to mount removable crossbars to the rack, using small risers so the kayak clears the cab when installed, and when I'm not hauling the kayaks I'll remove them and the rack will be cab high.

I been kicking the idea around for a few weeks and was thinking that I'd weld trick tabs to the inside of the upper cross tubes, so I can mount the crossbars using threaded hand knobs. I'm curious what you used.

Just ordered my pack rack today! Looking forward to getting it set up, along with my new RTT.

Thanks to Tracy at All-Pro for working with me to get this done. Can't wait to get out and put it to use!

    @allpro

Here I am beating this horse. Since I picked up a used pack rack and gear pack from a fellow TW member I really want to do a canvas top. I could probably figure something out but being a family man means my time gets used elsewhere. I would love to benefit from the time you invested with this company to see if we can get the canvas top going again.

Also, I need to call you to get some of those weld on mounting tabs. I have some thoughts on getting top storage rails for mounts to put on using some extruded forms, like the prinsu rack. I need to build more flexibility in for family camping, weekend wheeling, and project truck. A RTT isn't in the mix in the near future so I need to be able to use the top of this rack.

I need to check into it and see what happened to the company that was working on the cover. We haven't pursued it because there are too many height options. Your best bet is to take it to a boat shop or an upholstery shop and have one made.

I'm happy to get some mounting tabs out to you. Just let me know what you need!

I'm slowly working on adding crossbars to my Pack Rack, so I'm able to carry kayaks. I've seen several folks leave the Pack Rack at the full height, so a Kayak when loaded on top of the rack clears the cab of the truck. Although, leaving the rack higher than the cab serves a purpose, I didn't like the look. I cut the rack down to slightly below cab height and am adding removable crossbars to gain the additional height required to haul my kayaks. With the crossbars bolted on my kayak clears the cab, but I can remove them when I'm not hauling my boats. I'm using trick tabs welded to the rack and then bolting removable crossbars to the trick tabs.

I've added a couple pictures to help you get an idea of what I'm up to. Hopefully, I'll finish the rack in the next couple of weeks. I should be done with it, but it always seems like I'm out of shielding gas, or wire, or beer, or sometimes I simply lack motivation... I'll try and remember finished pictures. These two pictures show the trick tabs welded to the rack and the mounting plate for the crossbars mocked up with gussets.

'Ello all. Picked up a pack rack for a CVT tent awhile back, and I recently nabbed at 2000 mm ARB awning, and I can't work out how to mount it to the rack. Anyone know/have pictures how?

Here's how I did mine. Some weld nuts front and rear, a pair of flat steel bars, a little bending and then drill some holes. Not too hard to do and didn't take all that long.

For the aluminum pack rack, the website says no nut-serts are available. Does that mean the accessory bars don't work with the aluminum version?

Finally got mine on the truck for the ride to the powder coat shop. I love everything about it, except that the height is about 1.5" taller than I specified. My guess is that, despite noting that I wanted 19" to the TOP of the tubes, @allpro measured to the bottom of the tubes. Not a huge deal, as I'll see how it rides and how it plays with the rest of my gear in the bed, along with how it affects the RTT awning height. Not a huge deal if I decide to take it down an inch or so. Much harder to add height if it's too short ;)

On a side note, @allpro included weld nuts on top of the top bars, and I'm scratching my head as to what they are intended to do. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Not the best pic, but oh well, I'll get some better ones after PC!

If the welded nut inserts is what I'm thinking of it fits a 1/2"-18 bolt. I've seen people mount their hi-lift jack on it.

The weld nuts are to give you the option to mount lights or anything really that you can think to mount up there. It just makes it a little more versatile. We are happy to hear that you like your rack. Sounds like our measuring was a little off. I'm sorry to hear that. If there is anything we can do for you, please let me know!

Thanks, Tracy! You guys have been great with all of the purchases I've made in the past few months! As for the height, I'm not terribly concerned. As I said, I can deal with it and see how things come together once the rack, RTT, lift and tires are done. It will definitely give me an inch or so more of awning height, which isn't a bad thing! I'm going to fab up a suspended spare carrier using my stock tire winch, so I'll certainly post up a few pics of that after powder coat and installation of all of the goodies.

By the way, I'm hoping that my springs and shocks are going to ship this week. Does that sound realistic?

    Thanks again!

ok @allpro here is an idea for you. Because you can make this much faster and cheaper that I can.

I love the Pack Rack (and gear rack), but since I will not be using a RTT in the near future I need to utilize that space on top. I have drawn up some brackets that I will weld into the top that will allow me to mount some 80/20 extrusion bars on to the top of the Pack Rack. This will give me almost unlimited mounting options for the rack. Initial plans are to mount up the MWC, plano case for straps/recovery, and one of the maxx trax deals.

I love the adjust-ability of these extrusion bars. I will be able to adjust and fit to my daily needs.

    Start making these brackets!
