Maybe its just the angle, but it sure looks like that tire is gonna eat the corner of that bumper on the slightest bump. Lets see some trimming/tubbing already.

We have a full size 37 spare on its way ;)

A lot of what you're seeing is the angle of the photograph but we have done some initial flex testing with what little time (literally we were pushed to the limits just getting everything installed in time - the truck is on the road to CA from MT currently) we had and no issues with the bumper clearance so far but will be able to fully test it out this weekend on what areas we will need to further trim or modify.

This is a loaner set of 37's and Walkers that we stole off of our FJ "Frosty" to get this on the road - our Interco's and new Walkers are on their way and we are hoping to have them here next week.

How much of a lift is realistically needed to get those tires to clear?

    (with using the flared fenders)

Lift does not help clear larger tires. The tire must still clear through the entire cycle of the suspension

Drop bracket lifts, spindle lifts, and body lifts are all exceptions to that though;)

But yes, your typical suspension lift will only help clear tires at ride height. The tirs can still stuff to the same spot az before the lift so while offroading or hitting bumps around town you are still going to rub.

Besides you probably can't turn much if at all with 37's on a 3" lift at ride height. Haha

If, I was not interested in the long travel but wanted to run the 37's is that a viable option?

    Haha sea biscuit

That would be very difficult. Require significantly more cutting than lt requires. 37s and LT require tubbing and clearancing. Without would be ugly. However you also get less travel. So less tire intrusion into the fender...but yeah. It would be a lot of work no doubt. Possible? I'm sure
