    I went to install my sliders tonight and it looks like they don't quite fit right out of the box.

    Has anyone else that has installed All Pro sliders have to modify the pinch weld under the cab by either notching it or bending it back?

    Was planning on bolting them on for now.

    Kinda pisses me off though. I asked the guy before I ordered them and he said they had fixed the "notching" issue...

    I want to get these, but now I'm reconsidering. When I called All-Pro, and asked which way is best to mount (bolt or weld), he said that he'd never drill holes in the frame of his own truck and bolt anything to it, believing that making holes in the frame weakened it.

    I just played dumb and listened to his personal opinion.

    Greysky had the same problem with hers. She had the pinch weld cut, but I think it could be clearanced with a BFH. Welding them on is the best thing. :)

    I dont think it would be a good idea to. If you gusset the plates, then the force of whatever you impart on the sliders is transfered right to the frame, and it could bend/twist the frame. Building them like this keeps the "fusable link" at the slider base saveing the frame from being tweaked. Im not a fan of All Pro, but their sliders are pretty nicely done.

    So they dont bend, BUT, if hit hard enough, the force will be transfered to the frame possibly causeing it to bend. Like I said, I think the All Pro's are a better design, as its cheaper to fix sliders and a small dent in the body, than it is to straighten a frame. Now, you WOULD have to hit the sliders pretty hard for any damege to occure to the frame, but the possability exists.

    Sounds like a typical salesman issue. Nice of the "guy" to tell you All Pro had "fixed the notching issue". All Pro claims a closer fit than their competitors as a visual thing and state in their tech instructions, "In order to provide maximum strength and protection Rock Guards should be welded directly to the frame." AND "For a nice tight fit it's best to use a grinder to remove a small amount of material on the pinch weld of the body directly above each of the three support bars." You gotta LOVE salesmen.

    If I weld them, doesn't that have the same effect of the possible bent frame on a hard impact?

    The guy told me that they recommend welding them on, but I didn't read anything about having to notch the pinch weld...

    Stupid question, but if I have them welded on, how hard is it to remove them or is it even possible?

    BFH = Big F'ing Hammer
    The weak link is the joint where the slider extensions meet the mounting plate.
    If they are welded on, all you need to do to remove them is to grind off the welds. :)

    So, I took them by a place to get welded and they said $200-250. Sound like a lot? Also, will a "mig" welder do the job or do they need to use an "arc" welder? They mentioned that they could do it just fine with the mig welder but had some initial hesitation...

    It was Midas and they said 2-2.5 hours of shop time.

    P.S. Sorry for the "quotes" on the types of welders - not that knowledgeable on all things welding... :)

    Had tons on the old Taco's.... new Tundra is pretty stock
    2-2.5 hours for welding these on? looks like maybe an hour to me. MIG welding them will be fine as long as the welder is of sufficient size and the frame is prepped a little where they're going to be welded to it- paint should be removed to get max strength and to keep out contaminates even though the weld will burn off the paint. hope this helps a bit

    If you can't find an off road shop try a local welder i have one buy me that does some really nice work for a good price. I had him weld some aluminum on my boat and that came out great and from what i understand aluminum is hard to weld. good luck

    ditto....and mine cost $100 to have them welded on. i havent been under there to look in a while, but i didnt have to pinch weld mod mine and i dont believe the bottoms of the brackets hang below the frame...i'll have to check it out later

    +1 a local welder is probably the way to go. with the economy the way it is, he may be hurting at the moment so they would probably be glad to get a little business from you and they can do it much quicker for less $ too:D...... oh, and yes aluminum is tough to weld:cool:
    It conducts the heat much more than steel so more of the base metal heats up and its pretty easy to burn a hole through anything 1/8" or less in thickness. 3/16"+ is pretty simple if you can do any other welding.
