I watched this the other day, not saying it's what any of the wheels here are doing, but it's been speculation.

I have been curious about hunt wheels. Like those prices are tough to beat!

If the correct wheels do arrive today, I'll report back. Hoping to get them set up and do a quick lap on my backyard trail this evening. Planning a bigger ride tomorrow as well.

Never! For as much as I like biking in general, I can't stand road biking.

Yeah some of the leader-boards around me are super fishy... I never wanted to claim people were cheating but it's a little reassuring to the ego to know that it's possible.

I was the same when I started riding road. Got into it in a group setting which I enjoyed. Now I usually ride solo or with my wife, and I really enjoy it. Its nice to be on a long road or path and just spin for a while. Kind of zen. its a more "relaxed" cycling experience, rather than adrenaline. At least it should be. Asshole drivers definitely give you a few shots of adrenaline here and there lol

I just find a mellow XC course when I wanna spin my problems away. Almost met my maker in Teton Pass a few years ago on a short road stint between the trailhead and my truck. Narrow road, no shoulder, dodge 3500 dually with tow mirrors pulling a 5th wheel. No bueno.

So I'm putting some carbon hoops on my 650b+ hardtail.
I've never ran carbon wheels on a mountain bike and they have me nervous with them going on a rowdy hardtail. I usually run 8-12 psi depending on the trail and I have heard a few rim clanks here and there.

Who's running cushcore? Front and rear, or just rear? Reviews/thoughts on them?

Edit: I'll expand and also say I do have a little more lateral movement with the sidewall feels like it's rolling and giving a lot on the back on some turns

yea, the advantage for most people is that they can go road biking from their front door. no need to take a bike to a trail head. If I lived somewhere close enough to an XC trail that I could just ride to that, I almost definitely would over road biking. But I'm hamstrung by my options. Plus I like showing off my butt in spandex.

I used to ride road regularly. I'm now on the same page as @Gunshot-6A. If I wanna spin, I'll find a trail and take my hardtail. I've done some great long road rides in Oregon on quiet and scenic roads. Pretty much always have some scary experience with a car. No thanks.

I'm debating adding cushcore with this switch to carbon hoops, at least in the back. To start, I'll probably just run my pressure a bit higher than normal.

I'm running cushcore front and rear but I'm also on alloy wheels. They're heavy but you quickly forget they're there. The downside is that they're a BITCH to work with if your'e trying to get tires on and off. But they've done pretty well for me. Sidewalls hold up pretty well. I'm actually considering switching to tannus armour tubeless inserts because they're much easier to install and work with tires. No decision here yet.

sounds like your wife understand your addiction...er....hobby.

My wife is more addicted than me. She is highly competitive in the XC mid-week mtb series and started racing enduro this summer as well. That's how she broke her arm. A bigger bike for her is next on our major purchases list.

So you spend big bucks on carbon rims to save weight and then add cushcore which adds weight. That’s like drinking a diet soda and eating a Snickers Bar. ;)

Makes sense, I sacrifice sugar in one spot to enjoy it in another.

That's why I fast from 10pm to 12pm so I can pig out rest of the day.

or you spend big bucks on carbon wheels and add cushcore to help protect your investment.

The real question is if you didn't need cushcore on your aluminum rims, why would you on your carbon rims? If the answer really is that you do, I kind of agree that it doesn't make sense to go carbon because the weight savings are pretty minimal and negated by cushcore while also making the bike harder to work on.

I think in most cases a carbon rim is going to build up stronger and more impact resistant than an aluminum one (in the same bike category ie: enduro, trail, etc).
