yea thats how i see it too. it would be cool to win, but donating to trail builders for rad trails is what matters.

that kinda sucks, but no rules against it

Appreciate that you have a good trails team.

Ours borks our trails. The trails took years to build in a good, flowing manner. Then the new guy at the helm started taking stuff apart because it was "too difficult" so nothing flows together anymore. Fortunately that's only one of our networks, but that's a popular one around here.

ive had some mixed feelings on the trail builders here. on one hand theyre making legal bike only trails that are rad in different city parks. on the other hand, theyre shutting down all the old rowdy trails.

I bet captain Morgan’s is next on the chopping block. They are putting another downhill and mtb specific only trail at pulpit rock.

Ya I've been looking but the problem I'm running into is all my friends have just regular boost spacing. It definitely seemed like weird timing but they weren't alone.

Why in the fuuuhk would they do that? The kind of "trail management" pisses me off. Someone put in countless hours making those trails, what gives them the right to shut it down?
We have an area around here that's like that. Totally old-school rowdy, put in by riders, for riders. It was unknown for many years, totally locals-only. After a bit the secret was out, got super busy, trails started degrading. Ruts, bumps, weathering, etc, made the place turn to shit. Used to have like 5-10 cars max there, now there's like 40-50. I was pissed, stop riding there for a while.
A friend told me to check it out again, and man was I surprised. Turns out that the people who started riding there loved it so much they actually started putting in the work. New trails everywhere, old ones fixed, re-routed, and made better. Nothing dumbed down, quite the opposite, some were gnarlier than ever. I love that place again, and I'm stoked it's still there.
We've been hearing of possible shut-down for years since it's all boot-leg stuff, but luckily the local F.S. decided to leave it be. Several of the local bike associations have wanted to get in there and "fix" it so it's "more accessible". I say keep your grubby bitch-ass hands off it. Leave it hard, nasty, and mean. There's PLENTY of other trails you can "fix".

Pretty sure they shut down boot leg trails for liability or insurance proposes. If the company is taking responsibility for trails in the park and someone gets hurt they could be on the hook. There was another trail in the area that got shut down due to impact on wildlife (trout in the river, though I haven't seen fish anywhere near there). A section of trail went pretty close and someone was saying riders were kicking up enough rocks to go in the water and kill the fish? IDK. Was a pretty cool trail

I can totally understand the wildlife and natural habitat impact issues. I'm all about preserving the wilderness that we play in. But the whole liability argument is total BS. So many trail centers are available to people who want that type of riding. My wife is a great example; she's all about greens and blues. Wants smooth and fun trails with easy access, and I can take her riding in tons of places that are perfect for that. I love the idea of trail expansion to new areas for that type of riding. But reducing ALL trails to that just sucks.
**Mini-rant: It's also a weird American thing. Riding out in Europe made me realize how much we dumb things down for the general public. I rode (and hiked) some incredible areas out there that would not exist out here, simply because they would be "too dangerous for public use." I wish we as a public weren't so quick to blame other people for our mistakes.

For sure. I don't have any sources on the liability thing so could be total bs

I have seen the mystical Colorado Greenback Cutthroat trout with my own two eyes in that stream. It's a federally threatened species so I get that the forest service was freaking out about it and did not want to get sued by Trout Unlimited or another non-profit. The irony here is that Bear creek is not even the trout's natural range and it was brought down here in the late 1800s. Not to mention there is also a giant dirt road that parallels the creek but somehow the multi-use trail was the only feature responsible for sedimentation in the creek. At the time they were discovered, it was the only genetically pure strain of greenbacks that had not hybridized with non-native species. I'm actually studying this species for my thesis but over in Hayden Pass where they were wiped out by a wildfire. Should be able to re-introduce them in that creek based upon my findings.

I agree fully on trails for everyone. In the Springs, the city does a real good job of providing multi-use and all skill-level trails everywhere. Cheyenne Mountain state park on the other hand is exactly as what you describe. Their "mountain bike" trails are gravel walkways and I paid money one time to ride that shit.. I was furious.

Reminds me of riding with coworkers. Went out with my old company, they said "we're hitting the trails!" We hit a single track for like, 0.2 miles and then came out on fire roads for the whole ride.

THEN went out with my current company expecting similar, and they started with a full on climb up normal trails like shit man I'M OUT OF SHAPE this is not what I was expecting! '

Made me laugh. Anyway, be happy to have hills. Our "hills" are....I mean, they sort of exist. Welcome to southern New England, the land of flat

Yea that was actually a similar story to mine. My co-worker was like "You mountain bike? So do I lets ride." After riding those gravel trails I took him to a real trail and we have not rode together since. :D We are still good friends and ski/snowboard together but we definitely have different ideas of what mountain biking is.
