Thanks for the response. I’ve looked at the Giant Talon 3 and the Diamondback Mason as starter bikes. Now I’m going to swing by the bike shop by my work to see if they have any used. My buddy has let me use a Giant he has, not sure what model, but I getting on the trails.

Can't hurt to look at CL or Pinkbike.com usually a fair amount of used options on there and can get a lot of bike for cheaper but, a buyer must be wary on what they are getting. I ended up with a basically unused year old bike for $2900 off MSRP from CL

Looking at the specs of the two, I would certainly recommend the Mason over the Giant. A lot better spec.

    Hey guys.

What are your thought on these two combinations? And which would you suspect to be the better bang for your buck if the fox was priced $500 more (lets just say all other things remain equal)?

I bought my Bronson used (1 light season) for a ridiculous discount off shop price. He had it on KSL and Craigslist, but I found out about it because he told a friend he was selling it as we were all sitting on the drop in for the GJ Lunch Loops DJ Track. Would recommend taking a look at the secondary market.

Here is the pinkbike seach for trail bikes between $500-1500 in 150 mile radius of Sacramento. Some good finds!

Honestly, I think both are good combos. Lots of happy people on a lot of bikes with both.

That said, the MRP Stage and Fox Float X combo on my bronson are amazing!

Currently I'm running a RockShox Pike RC upfront and Fox Performance Float EVOL, Re:aktiv in the rear. I have no complaints at all, I'm just looking to maybe go carbon here in the near future and I've narrowed down what I want, but have to decide between those two combos.

Thanks guys, I’m definitely going to shop around a bit to see if I could get a deal somewhere. I’m going to search both sites and see what gem I could find

The Pro also has XTR over XT groupset and the RSC over RS brakes. Looks like the TRS+ wheelset as well.

That seems like a few other decent reasons for the pro. XTR probably is the biggest. I think I tweaked my contact points once on my RSC brakes, and that's it. Didn't even know that was a thing coming from XT brakes on my stumpy, so I was not at a loss if I didn't have it.

Nice! I have the same Yakima Bed Rock and SkyBox. Only issue is the limited height in the bed with the rack on, like for storage boxes.

Anyone have a set up for 4 bikes and 2 kayaks? I run the Yakima bed rails. I can put the kayaks in bed but the bed rails can only fit 3 bikes max. Thanks!

Yea, I noticed that too. I lean heavily towards to pro myself. Still have time and still have to unload my Remedy 9.

Personal opinion, XTR isn't with the extra $$. Shit breaks on bikes, replacing a part that has negligible performance gains sucks when it cuts twice as much. And breaking an XT derailleur is a lot easier to handle than a xtr.
YT bikes are purdy, and ride well. Looked at Canyon already?

I put $$ into frame, suspension, wheels, and brakes. In that order. The rest is whatever the spec is under top. So Eagle GX or Shimano XT.

I've Eagle GX on my Pivot for 2 seasons with no problems.
I concur with abacall that XTR isn't worth the extra $$$.

Interesting. Currently have Sram X1 on my remedy and have no complaints. So the XT seems to still be a step upwards. I'm all for frame and suspension, those are the two I notice the most with my riding level.

Have looked at canyon as well. The spectral has some really nice builds, and If I decide to NOT go with the Jeffsy CF Pro, I will heavily consider the Spectral CF 8.0 along with the Jeffry CF as they are very comparable and identical prices.

Blankets Creek, Woodstock, GA. You gotta love Monday mornings. Too bad Push doesn't work on truck suspension.

I remember when I thought I was gonna buy a Spec. Enduro as my next bike, I called Ohlins to see if they made a truck setup for tacomas to match my future bike. Their answer was basically "how much money do you have?"

I can fit 4 bikes on my Yakima bed set-up. I did a custom mount with a Pace-Edwards tonneau. Pretty sure I posted it here a few pages back. The truck is a short-bed. Trick is to angle the outer trays so that the bike sits at an angle, and rear-facing. That way the rear tire of the bike is facing the front of the truck, and sits outside the cab, but barely clears the rear door.

Realistically, 4 normal-sized adult males cannot fit in a Tacoma, so 3 trays is more than adequate except for shuttle days.
