Remember righty tighty lefty loosy. :D If the rubber strap wrench with tube wrapped around won't work maybe even try a couple layers of duct tape around the can because it will probably get a good grip with the strap wrench. Otherwise I'd protect it with an old tube then give channel locks a try being careful not to crush it. Maybe even a pipe wrench if you have one as it is more likely to grip without crushing.

Spent some time on the jump bike yesterday. Good fun, and the fork is killer.

Glad you didn't, I think I got the last one. After I placed the order (quickly) I checked the part again on the confirmation screen, and it said it was sold out. I thought they messed up and "sold" me something they didn't have. It just shipped today.
Check out this article, the need is real.
    https://www.pinkbike.com/news/thoug...normal-bike-with-parts-that-are-in-stock.html

Never seen anything like this since I started riding. I hardly ever paid retail, now I"m just glad to find something that works!
**Think I'm going to start putting together a list of things that I might need for the rest of the summer and get going on ordering it. Everything I've heard from manuf. suggest a small spike in inventory in early June, then nothing till late August.

I was getting worried about that too. Just got my shipping confirmation email this AM.

Yea man it’s nuts. I’ve paid retail plenty in the past, but seeing people ask/and pay retail+ for used parts blows my mind. Gonna have to step up my ‘spare’ game as well.

It’s horrid timing but I’m looking to pick up another bike at the moment. Wanting to get something for the wife to pedal around on now that the kids are old enough for more than driverway rides. It would also serve as a backup bike for me should I really get in a bind.

Thanks guys, picked up that SLX derailleur from REI just now. Pretty sure the only difference from XT is weight? Anyway, good to have that backup. Couldn't find XT in stock anywhere.

Found out from my LBS that the back of one of the pistons on my rear SLX brake caliper is cracked. Apparently a common problem.
Since it's pretty new they're doing an RMA on it, but when he called to try and get a replacement they said that they wouldn't be able to get it until January.
So they are instead going to throw an XT caliper on my rear brake to replace it. They were able to get one of those in July.

    Bike parts are crazy rn...

Just got a promo email from 1up. They have a red “patriotic” rack offer. The name/theme is silly and it would probably look garish with my already-too-red truck, but it’s a nice change from bike rack manufacturers always sticking to black and silver.

You can always reduce weight via drillium. Your safety may vary.

Yeah, i've seen shimano pistons crack. Very odd thing to happen. You can TECHNICALLY replace the piston and seal if you can get all the bits of the old piston out but that's a long shot so it's usually easier to replace the entire caliper. if you have one. :/

LOL. I mean...I'll drill out my carbon frame then!

Speaking of carbon frames... how concerned should I be about this chip/crack? :bananadead:

Probably wanna buy something like this. May even save time on crash replacement if you can send company internal pics of crack. If not cracked from inside I’d ride it a few times and check again to see if it got worse.

If it is damaged, you can send it off to get repaired for not that much money.
I got mine fixed at a place called Altitude Composites in Colorado. They did the repair and paint matched it.

I think repair alone is like $300 or so iirc

Where is that? Got a pic zoomed out a bit? What bike? Most likely you're going to want to get that repaired.

Looks like its more than just paint. If you bought the bike from a local shop, or a local shop is a dealer I would talk to them to see what they can do.
