I had a 240 and it was legit. Not as good as the hydra but I would'nt kick a 240 out of bed if you know what I mean.

lol, I was on my phone lazy texting because one of my hands got butchered earlier this week. I'm on PC now.
What I was saying is this.

If what you said you read or heard about riders not being able to tell a difference in POE once over 200, it would make sense that you cannot feel any lag in the Hydras. I say that because even with the tooth/hub flex to get 3 teeth driving a gear inside the hub the play/flex I'm sure would only equal 2-3 degrees, this is just a guess btw on degrees of flex. So at 2-3 degrees you're still talking about a hub with virtually 200-400 POE.

There's a reason the 180/240s are used in both XC and enduro/DH. Because they engage enough for most, yet have very little friction coasting.

I'm not knocking Hydra's, I could see myself buying some eventuall. For now I may go with Torch's though for 300 less a pair.

I really want to try the Vespers though. Besides the weight, they have instant engagement, or let's say possibly discernable anyways, and no pedal kickback allowing suspension to operate as if the bike was chainless due to no drag.

Haha all good buddy. I try to read your messages and play them back in my head with your southern draw. Its difficult to get the gist when the words are scrambled. My simple brain can't compute.

    Hope your hand is ok.

One reason DTs get used on a lot of distance/endurance comp applications (as well they should) is due to they're fairly simplistic and bombproof design. Admittedly I am not very up to speed on their recent redesign, but can only assume they will be just as reliable as previous gens.

I'm in relax mode at work, getting on a plane at 7 in the morning going to Hawaii for 2 weeks.

Too much free time right now.

For the record, Hydra's are amazing and still really light weight.

All I know is the tangible riding benefits for this guy between my Hydras and my old DT Swiss hubs (240s?) is shocking esp on the techy climbing stuff. That said, I'm sure there's a breakeven in the 2-300 range that you really wouldn't notice that much actual difference.

As for rims, I'm a better hubs > better rims guy, but I'm not riding at the same level as some of you where the advantages lie. I'll take the faster engagement speed and a strong set of alloy rims like my KOM toughs vs a $1200 pair of carbon hoops I wouldn't really take advantage of.

I’d like to try a set of carbon wheels. Everyone says that even within carbon wheels there are different ride characteristics. Some being more harsh than others some being more supple. I’d just like to see if I could even diffentiate the feel vs an alloy rim.

I’m just a hack wannabe but I can certainly feel hub engagement differenences.

same.... I miss my i9s a ton after riding these low end shimano hubs. Just haven't been able to swing the $1200 bucks for wheel set... debating picking up a spank complete rear wheel to hold me over for a little while longer. As I keep blowing spokes on my current wheel

Keep an eye on Craigslist, etc. I scored a set of I9 Enduros for like half price that were only a season old.

There’s a turd-gen comping out soon. I’m in the mailing list to find out when. Hopefully soon, those are awesome.
Black Forest, payroll, moose house and moose poop are awesome. Just don’t love the pedal back.
I have both, and they are VERY different. Both have been bomb proof, but feel is night and day.
The Hopes feel like DT Swiss, totally fine and I wouldn’t hesitate to get em.
I also have a set of the Project 321 hubs with 140ish POE, and really like em. They’re great too, but not as problem free as the Hopes, DTs, or i9.
