Thanks for the information on trails in the Asheville area of NC. I know most of you recommended Dupont for her abilities, but we ended up riding Bent Creek while we were in the area and she had a blast. The climbing, not so much though , but i think we took the long boring climb up to Green's Lick? As much as im against E-Bikes, i think thats what she needs to use in areas with more elevation than were used to. No matter how much i encourage "taking it on as a challenge you are overcoming" she hates climbing.

We started at the Rice Pinnacle Trailhead parking lot and took that fire road climb all the way up and around the mountain to Green's Lick. It was about 5 miles give or take of straight fire road climbing until we got to Green's Lick.

Yeah I think we did something similar the first time we went, the worst was coming around a switchback and seeing that the trail went up another steep climb.

The next time we went there's a more direct? line to get up there and goes up to the 5 points area.

I would stay away from SX if possible; the derailleur is plastic and prone to breaking.

From my understanding all eagle stuff uses same tech, just cheaper builds to get there.
Some things may not have as tight of tolerances, etc...

How often do you actually use the granny gear? Go 11 speed - it's cheaper, shifts better, and widespread availability. Plus, it's makes you stronger

I live in a hilly area and use my granny (30-42) a lot but I’ve got GX 11 speed and it works flawlessly with no maintenance other than cleaning over a couple of years now. In fact if components are still in short supply if/when I need to “upgrade” I may try one of the new wide range 9 or 10 speed setups.

i thought about that. prices are pretty similar between 11 and 12 speed sram stuff. and if i get another eagle setup ill have spare parts i can poach if i need to.

and i use my granny gear like every ride. got some big ole mountains in colorado

Just as long as you belt out an eagle screech when you shift into 12th to let your riding group know.

When we are doing a grueling climb, you tend to here a lot of this from the group (along with the continuous banging and clanging of trying to downshift under load):

I have a bike with a full sx system and one with a full gx system.

hands down the “moving” parts are much much better on my gx. Shifter, derailleur, and even bottom bracket are just better. I do have an NX shifter on my sx build now and can say even that was amazingly better than sx. But I can’t say the cassette cranks or chain make any difference.

YES! I sold all my 12 speed stuff and converted to XT/GX 11. Likely course of action moving forward

    Alright
