The Evil has been the best bike I’ve ever owned, and I really struggled with the decision. It’s still flawless, and rides as good as I can imagine. Sure will be interesting to see how they stack up.

Ironically I’m on the same decision plane. With 130 links on the horizon, the thought of having a short travel and mid travel ripper in one package is tough to not jump on.

Just got back from the first ride on the Ripley AF… I’ve really been missing out on this whole modern geometry thing. I felt like I could climb up anything with it. It even handles small drops and jumps pretty well too! Idk if the stache is gonna make it in my quiver now haha

Loading up for a little Sun AM session with the boys. Got inspired to print these while in Moab a couple weeks ago

    I spy a Helm @evenslower

Great start to my AM. Finally got my Followimg back off the IR list and back in action. Reminded myself how much I enjoy this bike.

Things didn’t end so well. Looks like I’ll be pulling the tire and replacing rim tape and sealant that have all been on for less than 24hrs :censored:

Keep an eye on that wheel. Once you start breaking spokes, there maybe more spokes to follow (unless a stick caused the broken spoke).

    Thanks for the tip!

Can you expand on the ‘keep an eyes out.’ What else should I be looking for?

I tagged a root pretty good in a turn which broke the spoke. I plan to check tension on all others and retrue the wheel as necessary. At least that’s the plan, never done this before.

Ouch, I dislike doing wheels so much. Why I got the extra set so I can take my time doing it now and in the future.

I’ve heard that too about once one spoke breaks others may soon follow. It may be worth calling and asking a good LBS what the cost is to redo a wheel after a broken spoke. Tire, tape, and sealant removal and reinstall replace the one spoke and check all torques and trueness.

I think locally it’s about $80, which sure it takes them possibly 1 hour to do, but no clean up or aggravation may be worth that.

The tires are stock, I won’t be running them after, or maxxis. I’ve got some delium tires I’m excited to try.

The cranks were bought to try out that shorter crank hype, plus Arrival has one of the lowest BB height of modern bikes which has pros and cons. I do love them, however bike fit changes dramatically going this short 155mm.

Finally the grips were to make up for what I’ve now found to be improper saddle placement on these super steep STA bikes. I scooted the seat back a good bit and it’s helped more than anything. Steep STA and long, low, and slack demand more hinge at the hips. Still experimenting here.

I think you’re on the right track. My rule of thumb is two broken spokes not caused by impact gets a relace.

Had a good weekend of riding/camping with some friends. Got the new DH rig on some suitable trails and gave her first real crash, it’s officially on its way to becoming a fully clapped rig. 15FFA51D-7AE3-4A75-AB50-62E25A4FA971.jpg99B704AD-9EAE-4039-ACE4-53CFC89407AF.jpg
