First option penetrant plus a cheater bar (like an old aluminum handle bar or metal pipe). if that doesn’t work (and you haven’t stripped the Allen) try compressed air in a can on the axle to shrink it. If that fails, try an impact wrench. If that doesn’t work, buy a new bike.

For the NorCal bikers, be careful when poaching Annadel. The Rangers are now giving out tickets.

Decided to go with the new bike just to save time. :headbang:

ok, just kidding. It turns out that the axle bound to the hub bearings internally, so most of the methods won't work. I have to fashion something to bang the hub off the axle once I back it out of the fork threads a little bit on the other side. Doing so creates just enough space to give it room to move once I bang on it. Wish me luck...

sounds like a good penetrant is what you need. Not all penetrants are the same though. Some are better than others.

Thoughts on these two loops I’ve found on trail forks…
These I could actually find comments on the routes within a months time to only being a few months old. So I felt better knowing they’re not just forgotten about.

I’m a bit nervous, not as much because I’m by myself, but because of the leaf surfing.

Anyone else want to make a loop for me?

Clawhammer, Left on Black, Avery,Bennet Gap Route

Bent Creek Loop w/ Green's Lick and Ingles Field Gap Route
    https://www.trailforks.com/goto/route/8005/

Figured I’d hit Berm Park trails tomorrow.
    Check everything out.

That’s a good one but definitely tougher than the mileage would indicate to most people. There’s enough traffic on those that the leaves shouldn’t be much of a problem by now, that said Avery keeps me on my toes without the complication of the leaves.

Love to hear your thoughts on Berm Park. Driven by there twice since opening but haven’t been drawn into it just yet.

Bent Creek is going to be an easier ride for sure. Haven't ridden Avery/Bennet, but I hear its challenging.

I had a good time on Spencer Gap/Trace Ridge/Fletcher the last time we went up. Same can be said for Middle/Lower Black.

Looking to sell my Trek Madone 5.2 size 50 with 10spd Shimano Ultegra, Reynolds carbon wheels, Ritchey WCS bar and stem and Time pedals. I haven’t posted in the B/S/T forum because I’m not sure what I could get for it, so thought I’d start here in case someone is looking to get into cycling. I don’t ride it anymore and trying to find a good home for it.

Well that changes things. When you say all day ride do you mean 4-5 hours or plan on being there 8?

I did this ride in 2:20, with stops.
Thing is I recorded 13.17 miles and 1968’ of elevation.

I can say these don’t feel like true blacks, but fun fast blues that I feel comfortable on being alone for sure.

The last time I did a similar loop it started from Davidson campground, was all you’ve got laid out minus Bennett and it was 3 hours. Was a group of 6 with a few stops to session and watch locals on some of the gaps on Bennett so could have been 30 min quicker with focus and intent.

I’d guess pedal up to Bennett and ride back down would add 45m-1hr

I’d like to plan on 5 hours then for any trailside maintenance and session looking, if you’d guess 4 hours for the trail.

Appreciate the feedback, I haven’t made it to Berm Park yet, but will before I leave for sure.

Yeah 4-5 hours should be plenty

It's almost double elevation than your Bent Creek ride

Spesh and Bonti make some banger tires that are often overlooked. Even at retail they outprice the comp. Sale pricing makes it a no brainer.

    edit:
I will admit that the only pinch flat I’ve had in recent memory was on a Spesh tire. So they have some weaker sidewalls than others.
