Looking to upgrade the wheels on my 2021 SC Tallboy. Not trying to break the bank, but something lighter then stock and reliable. I9 is having a sale currently, I think with the discount a set of carbon 1/1 trail wheels is around $1400. My buddy suggested the Roval Carbon that on sale currently for around $1100. I am 180lbs, fairly aggressive rider but don't catch big air as I'm getting older. What do you guys recommend?

Touch choice. The Specialized is almost half a pound of rotating weight lighter but the i9's have more engagement. If it was me, I'd go with less rotating weight. Engagement is overrated (this coming from a guy that has the i9 Torch, Hydra, Onyx and DT Swiss 180's (with the 54T ratchet).

Check out Nobl also. I ended up getting a set of TR-37's with Hydra's for $1,350 using a discount through Expert Voice. Lifetime warranty on them also. 1/1's would be less expensive.

BH90 is a thinner high pressure hose so the silver barb has a slightly smaller diameter.

I had a set of 2.5 remote resi's on the rear and they were great. Only reason I switched was upgraded to HD leaf pack so needed longer travel shock and just went with the bilsteins that came with the pack.

Any of you guys ride with a Garmin every ride? I’m thinking of picking up an edge 530 cheap.

I’m currently using the Apple Watch, and I really like it for what it is. Miles mostly and I find the heart rate interesting. I don’t dive deep just see what my max was for a ride.

I’d still probably use the Apple Watch for HR, or buy a cheap Garmin watch for the heart rate. I’m conflicted. I guess I don’t need anything though to be honest. Hmmmm

I have a 530 and use it for every type of ride. Road, gravel, MTB and my trainer. I love the thing and the functions that Garmin provides for course making and such. There are some modes that i don’t use that are specific to dirt/MTB, I just haven’t dug into them as much.

Heart rate is an imperfect measurement for training and unless you really know the nuances of it and yourself, I don’t think a Garmin watch hr is going to provide more meaningful data than the Apple Watch hr. Maybe if you were using a hr strap and a head unit, then it would probably provide more accurate hr data but again unless you know what you’re looking at, it doesn’t tell you much.

I have a Garmin watch and when I’m “training” I’ll use a Garmin 530 head unit on the stem because it’s easier to watch interval time, laps, etc.

    not enough.
I have an edge 530 and i use it every ride. for every type of ride. gravel or mtb. I love mine. It lasts forever. i also have a hr strap to give me a bit more accurate hr data. I trust my edge 530 for elevations and stuff more than my phone. great device. if you can find it for cheap, go ahead and snag it!

I use my Garmin Fenix 6X. I did just buy a 1030 from my buddy for $100 and will use it when I ride new places and preload a route.

Figured I add in my set-up with my KB Voodoo/Max Modular rack. Realized I don't have any good or recent pics. These were with my brother-in-law and friend on our first trip to SkyPark last year. Not shown is my actual bike (since it's in the bed): 2020 Specialized Fuse, the lone hardtail of the group. Since then I've gotten a 2022 Pivot Shuttle AM and am enjoying the switch to full suspension and electric power which helps with my genetic heart condition and pacemaker/ICD. Oh, and the truck went from stock suspension to Bilsteins 6112/5160 and Dakars recently.

I use a Garmin 530 every ride and a Garmin watch. The Garmin devices all talk to each other so pairing the HR to the ride is easy with all Garmin stuff. Apple doesn’t play well with others.

I have a Garmin 530 as well and use it with a Wahoo HR strap. Not for any real training, but really just for data over time.

I wouldn't mind making the switch to a Garmin watch and getting rid of the computer. That being said the computer has helped me navigate trails when riding out of state.
