You probably need to do a B screw adjustment. Get the eagle B alignment tool and follow instructions from the interwebs (it's real straightforward). If that doesn't get it humming, you may have a worn cassette.

Thanks for the reply on this, appreciate the insight. We ended up camping a couple miles away, no big deal. Spoke with Mike of Mike's Tiki bar. He has no issue with camping in his lot, as long as your set up is relatively small (Sprinter vans, rooftop tents, small campers, etc.). What an amazing place, let's hope that we don't lose this place due to a few knuckleheads.

Thats good to know from the source its still OK to camp there if you are taking minimal space! You get some good riding in while up there?

We were able to hit just about all of the Darling Ridge area and East Haven, both of which were a blast. Everything else seemed to be pretty wet so we stayed off.

Thats great! We were up there a couple weeks ago and spent a lot of time on the Darling Hill side. With the closure of Flower Brook, East Haven is a bit segregated but still managed to make the best of it (got to love the Haul Road grind).

I lost the center bolt on a Shimano shifter once. Fortunately, it was the end of the ride so it was OK, but that's the only issue I've had with Shimano. No issues with the one bike I have that rocks SRAM.

my shifters are one of the few things i don't have issues with. (i wouldn't call cable tension a shifter issue)

I think I'm pushign too hard in certain instances and getting the shifting mechanism to slip and either break a spring or just come undone. It's only on the "going to bigger gear" that i've roken on. they seem to work fine going to smaller cogs, which makes sense. Yeah...I might have to be a big lighter on the touch. or figure something else out. 3rd shifter i'm on. lol.

I've never had this happen so I'm just throwing it out there but could there be too much tension on the cable? maybe the housing is too short or it's got a weird bend in it somewhere?

it might be worth it. It's just odd that you've gone through that many. Although I guess when you replace the shifter then it would have to have been setup with high tension each time so maybe that isn't the issue.

Or… you need the new SRAM transmission so you can shift better under load!

My wife's derailleur hanger was ever so slightly bent and I said exactly this! Then I did the reasonable thing and straightened the hanger and it's shifting just fine again...

On my previous bike, I bent the Deore derailleur and used that opportunity to replace it with an XT one :anonymous: slightly lower cost of entry compared to the new SRAM setup, but same general logic :D

I probably would've been more inclined to seize the opportunity if it were my bike instead of my wife's

Reviving this old post for some questions about riding around Bend.

Looks like this will be the first stop on our Oregon trip and not the last stop like I had originally thought.

We should be getting to Oregon sometime on Monday, September 4. We will camp somewhere around Bend that night and we have an AirBnB in Bend Tuesday night. Looks like the airbnb is a little after the white water park on the river close to Drake park, so Tuesday will most likely be all in Bend doing stuff, floating, eating, etc.

Monday night will be camping somewhere. I was thinking camping southwest of bend where all the trails on trailforks are is the best if I want to squeeze a ride in. I'm looking at lava lake right now and there are tons of open spots.

Is anyone familiar with Edison Lava trail or anything around there?

Is it unreasonable to think I could ride from lava lake to Bend in like 4ish hours? Google maps shows 3ish hours. Personal experience for road riding through google maps, I can normally make it places in 2/3 to 3/4 the time that Google maps says. Thats normally on paved surfaces and not single track trail though.

Would it be easier to just drive down to Bend and ride around Phils in that case?

Looks like Mt Bachelor bike park goes to only being open on the weekends that Monday. Thats a bummer, but also I probably shouldn't push too hard my first day riding in Oregon.
