I read it the same way. At the time of my seeing the post on instagram I couldn’t find any other articles/posts on the topic. Hate it for those that needed to ‘move on.’ It can be a volatile industry.

Just a little snow, still 3-4 inches deep in places, but the trails were running perfect with the fat bike today! The studded tires make some of the exposed rock sections ‘sporty’ but great traction everywhere else is a good trade off.

Been selling at a discount for 6 months, no major updates, cooling of demand. Sucks, love the bikes. Hope this helps them in the long run.

So all my buddies who ride are doing the typical college spring break somewhere drunk on a beach, so if I do St.george i'll be solo.

hmmm. I don't know if I trust myself enough to do a solo biking trip

There is a good bit of riding around St George that is not too remote. Also, the trails will be packed so you won’t be alone. Honestly, a beach doesn’t sound bad minus the getting blind drunk part. Plenty of good activities to do around the ocean such as surfing, snorkeling and fishing. Your friends may even thank you for dragging them along on a new adventure. As you get to my age it’s so hard to spend time with friends so I wouldn’t toss out the opportunity to go ride my bike.

What the hell am I talking about, this is a mountain biking thread go ride your bike if you want. Lol

Drunk on a beach as In Cabo party beaches with other drunk American college kids on spring break. Not my scene.

Good point on not too remote and popular. When I ride my bike I’m rarely able to convince myself to ride below 8/10’s effort so if I’m pushing myself part of me worries abt goin 10 hours away a place and trails I don’t know and pushin it. At least someone will eventually find the body lol

Quite frankly I am always surprised at how much bikes cost nowadays. I don't know if its the shops making a killing or the bike companies.
Shit I am 51 and back in the day you didn't have a top tier bike unless you were a factory rider. I started racing BMX when I was like 10 and
made it to a factory ride. Made the switch to mtn bike racing in the 90's and raced Pro on the downhill and dual slalom circuit. I didn't pay
full price for a bike until my racing career was long over and even then I hated to spend that kinda money. But I was out of the game so no
more free or half priced bikes. Today's prices are just so out of whack. Cycling should be cheap fun. Hasn't been that way in a long time.

Eh, costs are relative. I just found the original owner’s manual for the Schwinn Varsity I bought in 1969 for $75. That was every penny that then 12 year old me had, but I had a great time on that bike. Rode fireroads and even a bit of singletrack ten years before the term mountain bike was used. Near the end of last year, I made two major purchases: A new Ibis Ripley, and 30 feet of sewerline with new clean outs at each end. The Ripley was about 5x the cost of the Schwinn adjusted for inflation but it’s arguably more than 5x the bike. And the sewerline cost more than 4x the cost of the Ripley but it’s a lot less fun.

It doesn’t have to cost that much. There are plenty of direct to consumer brands that make bikes perfectly suited for the average trail rider for a fraction of what some of these boutique brands cost. They may not have the flair or pizzazz of Evil or Pivot, but you can get on a decent bike with good components for $1,200-$1,500, less if you go hard tail. That at least gets you into the Deore lineup, boost spacing and hydraulic brakes, from there you can upgrade what needs it in due time. It’s still a lot of money, but nothing like dropping $12k on an S-works!

My wife got me a carbon Tallboy for less than 3k. I’ve since modified it, but that’s a lot of bike for the price.

An Alloy Stumpjumper EVO in one of the higher component specs is one of the best value bikes I think I've seen new

For the ATL crew, ACC is a legit Toyota shop. I may begin taking my Taco there also.

Facts. Although the crew may be slightly biased to the Toyota classics and modern Lexus. Good dudes. Only shirt swag for me currently.

    not enough.
i thought it was just layoffs...for now. :/ sucks. hopefully everyone lands somewhere.

st george isn't too remote. I wouldn't worry. I solo ride all the time there. just don't fall off one of the cliffs and you'll be fine. most of the trails are popular enough that someone will come by to help if you need it.

I think it’s unfortunate, because I like having choices. The market expands and contracts. I remember 2-3 years ago dealers were marking bikes up by up to $300 because there was a massive demand with zero supply, now they are literally giving shit away. I bought a $1000 Fox fork on Black Friday special for half off.

My local dealers are overflowing with premium $15,000 mountain bikes they are discounting 40% and the ass has dropped out of the electric bike market.

I just don’t want things to be like they were in the early 2000s where essentially you had Trek, Specialized, and GT and everything else kept going out of business.

I also live in California where it’s normal to see bikes costing more than the trucks hauling them around to the trails, and I don’t think the rest of the country has the stomach for that kind of luxury.

    not enough.
yeah. loads of high discounts going around. next few years are gonna continue to be brutal but also interesting. hopefully a lot of brands survive the storm. i'd love to still have evil kciking around so i can get a wreckoning some day.

Hi guys. Does anyone use a Kuat Sherpa V2.0 with a 2nd gen (2015 specifically, though i dont think it matters)? Need to know if the tailgate can lower with this version.

Currently I have the old 1.0 and it interferes. I've seen conflicting posts in tacomaworld to confirm this so anyone chiming in would help greatly.

Can't speak to Kuat but can tell you Yakima Holdup 2 will interfere while 1up and Thule T2 classic clear the tailgate without issue (Even with fat bike adapter on T2) In case you were considering others (On 2nd gen at least)

New Dilemma: If I want to stay on the family health insurance, have to find someone driving from reno to st. george with me in case I get hurt. Wonder how I'd be able to pitch that to someone who doesn't ride? "Drop me off for all my MTB rides and pick me up and you can do whatever you want in between. Shuttle me a few times. I'll cover all the gas. and we split hotel."

Long shot lol. Might have to scrap the idea :(
