I like the Five Ten Hellcat or Hellcat Pro for a comfy, walkable clipless shoe. My flat pedal shoes are also Five Ten Freeriders and I wear a wide work boot (actually had the king toe for a bit but have a different pair currently).

I replace mine once play gets to a certain point. Also, when i begin accidentally releasing when moving the bike around (for example, when turning the bike sideways at the start of a scrub). I run my SPDs at max tension (hardest entry and release).

That's amazing man. Honestly, riding in Europe is a whole other story. The vert and terrain and crazy. They also rate everything easier than you expect. So their blues, well then sure can be spicy.
Then there's the food, the people who are (usually) super welcoming, big culture around bikes, and love of adventure. Traveling is such a big part of their culture that the tourism industry is dialed.
For most of us who are pretty damn far from Whistler, the flight is usually about the same price as gas (or cheaper). Hotels are way cheaper, as are lift tickets. There's a few tricks to making the trip easier, but nothing that difficult.

most definitely not the first time i've heard that. a day ticket in some ski resorts over there is like 50 bucks!

PSA, if you have PNW composite pedals, check this little end cap. I lost one and the pedal can then slide around on the spindle. I checked the rest of my pedals and most were loose. It won't leave you stranded if it falls off, but it allows the pedal to slide about 1/4-1/2" on the spindle which makes for an interesting feel under foot.

also probably helps seal in the internals. so...good to have still. the oneup has a similar design so it's always worth checking.

Washed the bike today after my ride. Used the muc off pink cleaner since it’s on sale at REI vs just water and a rag. Seems to work okay getting mud and chain wax gunk off everything. Still had to come back with a towel and SC1 cleaner to get it to my liking but it’s nice having a clean bike for a day or two.
Next goodies for the bike are some 220mm rotors and a new rear tire which will be around sometime next week.

Anyone else getting some rides in this weekend?

I use the pink cleaner regularly, does a nice job. I quote them down with silicone spray afterwards to keep stuff from sticking on the next ride.

I got out on my gravel bike today, got 30 miles and some decent off road sections. Hopefully a MTB ride is on the books for tomorrow or Monday.

Staying out of town for the night. Stopped at a car wash and blasted the floof off the eeb. Aimed for pivots mostly. I did dry the chain off with a tissue...

Anyone looking for a nice set of 27.5 + wheels? Listed a set of Enve M640+ boost wheels with DT 240s on Pinkbike. Listed high to combat lowballers.
Currently set up SS with tubeless recon+ 2.8s with 20T surly cog. Have Xd driver. Centerlock rotors I was going to pull off. Minimal scratches, great shape for Moab/ desert riding, were minimally ridden , shared duty with their 29er counterparts.
MSRP was $ 2550 for just the built wheels before tax. Have an extra tire that I won't need.

    Yeah.
Yeah, trees uprooted or tops snapped off everywhere. My big cedar in the back is in my neighbor's back yard now. Half our neighborhood still has no power (we got it back sooner than expected). What was left of the school year has been cancelled. Lots of bucket trucks coming in from everywhere to help put things back right, but I suppose many of the local trails may take a while to get cleared and repaired.

My house nearly took a direct hit by a lightning bolt from that line of storms once it hit northern Alabama. My modem got fried and some of the cabling too but the tree didn’t fall on my house so it’s all good.

Natural disasters that I would not want to experience:
    • Tornado
    • Earthquake
    • Tsunami
    • Wildfire
Obviously I mean large ones. I've experienced smaller earthquakes and been impacted by wildfires within 1/2 mile from my house. I mean the big ones where you are scared for your life.

Large earthquakes are legit the scariest. It's when you realize that you've got absolutely no power over what's happening. Nothing you've done or do matters.
