Couple upgrades to my Raleigh Technium grand prix. 50mm carbon wheels. Changed from a 7x2 to a 8x2 using some new Shimano down tube shifters and Claris rear derailleur. Carbon fork with threadless conversion using FSA headset. And switched to some Ultegra calipers. I also hand painted the chevron detail on the fork that the original fork had. Im really liking the look now. Perfect combo of new and old. And it rides awesome

Saw this at the SRAM tent this morning during bike to work day. I'm not sure how aggressive I would get on some trails with it lol

    Yeah.
It's got a sticker on it that says why, lol.

Seems like a pretty good solution in this circumstance, just not sure if the structural integrity of the bars remains. But probably fine.

Whoops, now I feel like a clown. Probably works great. It's amazing what people come up with. I ride with a guy born with one hand and he's faster than me!

It was about 65° when I went out this morning, perfect for a ride in the redwoods. No one on the trails either. IMG_0070.jpg

Trails are dry and in fact getting dusty. But there are a few spots with water still coming out of the hills and collecting in visible but small puddles. Though we had about a tenth of an inch of mid-afternoon rain yesterday, not just morning fog. Weird for late June.

    not enough.
Whistler so far is just very meh. Totally didn't do some top to bottom runs of some amazing trails. also didn't check off some fears. also didn't have fun. -10/10 don't recommend.
jk. 100/10 recommend. get out there sometime. Still got 2 more days of riding. Currently raining but that's not stopping us tomorrow.

I'm coming back out @Gunshot-6A . We'll have to make another trip happen.

definitely a great one. We've been hitting so many things that it's hard to say what's top of the list. non-stop great riding.

I wish my closest downhill park could actually maintain their trails to be properly ridable...

Just cant justify $30 in gas + the $550 pass when trails are rutted out at start of the season then flooded mid day by the sprinklers leaving 3-5 inches of standing water on the trail in spots. would rather have them do only tech trails if soil doesn't allow for machine graded jump lines. oh wait. 75% of their tech trails were closed 3 weeks into the season when the snows been gone at northstar for many months now. I'd pay it in a heartbeat if I felt it was worth it. or If I didn't have to account for $30 in gas each day. Just not with shitty terrain management.

I ride quite a bit but my style is really casual crosscountry. I enjoy rolling single track and keep both wheels on the ground unless I just need to loft over a log or small step-up. No interest in PR’s let alone KOM. I have ridden at bike parks maybe two or three times (Mammoth, Grand Targhee). Fun, but not really my thing; too crowded and I’d rather ride uphill than wait in a lift line. Paying to ride seems weird too. Anyway, that’s just for context.

Last summer we drove through Whistler and decided to check it out. Took 30 minutes to find parking for our 20 foot van, cost $8/hour. Walked around the “Village” to check things out. Hordes of people, 50% in Patagucci and 50% in real Gucci; a cross between Disneyland, a faux Swiss village, and Rodeo Drive. Stood in line for 15 minutes for a $10 ice cream. Returned to the van and headed on south.
Ten minutes out of town found a nearly empty campground. Trails running right from camp. Nothing special but very pleasant. We were lucky enough to have ridden in several places in BC that summer and the year before. I’d pick Smithers, Revelstoke, Fernie long before I’d go back to Whistler. Or Bellingham, Sandy Ridge. Crested Butte, yes! That’s just me. But don’t expect to be a quiet forest experience.

    Edit: two things.
    1) I didn’t mean to sound negative about Whistler. It wasn’t my thing but I’m sure the trails are great.
    2) My wording in the paragraph quoted here is ambiguous. I loved Bellingham, etc. I realize that what I wrote could be interpreted that I was lumping those places in with Whistler.

All those blues and blacks on Creekside are the jam. I've ridden Garbo zone so much at this point, love em but need some fresh dirt. I heard there's a new loam trail somewhere on the Garbo side have you checked that out yet? Probably a double black, not sure what it's called.

I'm hoping to get some advice from all you sane folks in this thread.

I own a 2023 Pivot 429 Enduro (purchased Dec. 2023) which had a rear triangle crack (see pics). Long story short I got in contact with the LBS I purchased by bike from and they facilitated the whole repair which involved stripping the frame, shipping the bike to & from, and then building the bike back up. Pivot ended up fully covering the rear triangle no questions asked and sent the frame back with a new rear triangle assembled.

Well, I went to pickup the bike today and was completely surprised by a ~$400 cost for them having facilitated the repair. I was clearly very upset and made it obvious that it was not okay. There was ZERO mention of costs when I reported the issue, when I dropped off the bike, and when I was told the bike was ready for pickup.

Understandably Pivot warranty does not cover labor and shipping costs for warranty issues. I get it. Which is why I think this is entirely on the shop to figure out either by themselves or with Pivot being that they are a certified dealer. At the end of the day, this is a $6000-7000 bike that is 6 months old and had a covered warranty issue.

I'm letting my head cool but I will be giving the shop a follow up call tomorrow to speak to the owner again about the situation.
