Some friends and I got a Pikes Peak Plummet in yesterday.

Weather was like 95+ in Colorado Springs, but we had a free day and my fiance was available to drive my truck down. It only took an hour to get to the top of Elk park where we started out Plummet. We got to the highway gate a few minute before it opened. Another 30ish minutes to get to Elk park. There was two other groups up there doing the plummet too.

Riding above tree line was pretty cool. It wasn't as exposed or as loose as I remember. The elevation definitely played a part in how willing I was to ride some techier features. A lot more hike a bike in the trees on elk park than I remember.

We stopped at Barr Camp to snack on what we brought. They were pretty short on drinks and stuff with how many hikers have been through lately. Still a cool place to check out.

Lake Moraine trail is great. We didn't ride the missing link, or maybe its part on Lake Moraine now? Trail forks showed some older trails that have been blocked off so I'm not really sure what is supposed to be what now.

A friend got a flat on Lake Moraine not too far from Barr and before the one bigger climb of the day. It was leaking between the bead and his rim. I put a bottle of stans in it, but it didn't seal. He tried his tube, but it had a leak somewhere. Luckily another guy in the group had a 29er tube that worked. Thinking now we should have tried to jam some bacon strips between the tire and rim, but oh well.

Once we got to Jones park things started to get a bit more hot. There was some cloud coverage which helped, but it was a noticeable temperature difference. Three of the four of us rode most of Jones park a few weeks ago where we climbed up a road to ride down it (this was a stupid long day), so we were a little more familiar with it. Getting down into Cheyenne Canon to Stratton was easy, but we were getting a bit tired. We took the medium difficulty trail down, we were not up for a double black diamond at the end of the day lol. An easy ride back to my house to wrap it all up.

Strava says it was only about 1000 feet of climbing over 25 miles. I would guess closer to 1500, but still very little climbing for how far we rode.

It was tons of fun and I'm stoked we got to ride it this year. We tried last October with a shuttle company ($60 a person) but it started snowing on the drive up and Pikes Peak wouldn't let us get to the trail head. One of the guys has a 14er pass for Pikes Peak, so 14 person entries for about $115 that lasts all year. He has it to ski the mountain in the winter but had enough punches left to get us up. That and only having to pay for gas makes it so easy to get up there. The hardest part is convincing my fiance to get up that early to just go for a ride up the mountain then drive down back home, lol.

You're on a Spur now, correct?

How do you like it compared to the following? That was on my list, too, before I bought your old bike.

Tell your friends to buy my firebird lol. I'd take 4300 from a sale organized through TW.

Re-aggravated more seriously my knee again. Between the one 10 mile 1000 foot climb ride (to be fair I had a blast on that ride but also took 1000 MG ibuprofen to not be in pain)+ 10 miles ran/jogged per day at work 6 days in a row. Doc thinks its the anchor for my MPFL on the inner part of my knee coming loose/rattling around and the MPFL being re-stretched and pulled. Had it re done twice already. Pending MRI to confirm/deny.

Yea I’m on a Spur. The Following and the Spur are easily my top two choices of bikes I’ve owned. I would ride either happily any day.

What the guy in that review says about Evil bikes is true. The Delta suspension is magical. So much pop out of corners, pedals very well, supple on the small bumps yet supportive when you need it.

I’m no one to give an informative review. It’s barely apparent I’ve ridden more than twice if one were to observe my two wheeled exploits. But between the two I’d say the Spur takes honors for me simply due to providing similar performance in a slightly lighter package. It’s completely subjective but I like the Spur’s frame design is a little more too.

:bananadead: Sounds terrible, knee stuff always makes me cringe. Hopefully they can get you put back together.

I pissed off my old good ol back injury last weekend so I took a week off. Just did an ez pedal today and it felt ok. Cruising up to Whistler in a couple days so hopefully I can enjoy it not too much gimp.

Don't dive into this here, but Pinkbike was taken aback by the comment section on this article. They deleted some keywords from the title and article.
I just had to do my slight of hand picking.

All you great biking minds, can anyone explain the difference between XD and XDR hubs? Specifically, if I'm going to run a 12 speed GX cassette, is the chain line on the XD hub the same as the XDR hub with the spacer? I'm getting confused with what I'm reading online, it appears the XDR hub is to allow for a road cassettes to sit closer to the centerline of the wheel, but the mountain hub should work also I believe?

    Random question.

Anybody here ride a Sirrus? Looking for a cheap rail to trail type of bike for when I just need to be on two wheels, but faster then the Specialized ROLL I own.

Looking at a used 2019 Sirrus elite for $400. The new 1.0 are a hundred or so more. Any advice?
