We are ruined lol we keep showing up in geriatric magazines as top places to retire.

love biking community but now there’s a bunch of retired e bikers eating my pizza.

On second thought- e bikes are great job security-

I am geriatric and retired but don’t have an e-bike. But the pizza was good. I’m going to be in the area in early September. Hopefully it’s not too hot for my coastal California heat tolerance.

The amount of e-bikes I see ridden around here by kids age 10-16 years old, is shocking. And the parents will wonder why their kids are so out of shape in a few years lol
And also, I cant believe these parents are forking out $1500+ for a e-bike for their kids . I would never

that's the one that gets me confused the most. so many teenagers on e-bikes around my parts as well and i'm just like, "but...you're like the demographic that doesn't need it usually. huh". they're either on their own ebikes or on their dad's ebike.
oh well. i guess in a few years, we'll see how things shift.

Exactly. I think a pedal assist e-bike is fine for older people or people that need it because of a disability or injury. But e-bikes with throttles that you dont need to pedal, shouldnt be made.
In my area they are talking about adding something into law that would require e-bikes to be registered. I hope they do because these kids ride like idiots on them. Riding against traffic, no helmets, 2 kids on one bike, no light at night, on the side walk, in the middle of the road, etc.

haha the throttle controlled e-bikes are pretty hard to find on the trails around these parts. see plenty of "normal" e-mtn bikes. I have a throttle controlled class 3 (? i think) e-bike. but i use it solely for commuting or grocery getting. i live on a hill so it makes the riding so much easier.

the other night, my girlfriend and I rode over to the bar to grab a drink. I gave her the e-bike and i took my gravel bike. she totally shot way past me with only throttle just for giggles and didn't even give me a tow. hahah!

In my neighborhood it’s not uncommon to see four kids on one eBike. A well-known MTB pioneer lives in my community and is active on neighborhood grouch social media, aka Nextdoor. He recently commented that a bike that doesn’t have adjustable saddle height isn’t a bicycle, regardless of pedals. That applies to most of the eBikes the kids ride.

Where I'm from we don't have a Surron crowd thank goodness.
EMTB, I split between my MTB and EMTB pretty regularly.
I don't need the EMTB, but when I just want to go out and get back quickly, they're nice.

Haha thats wild. The fad has to end soon. As soon as these bikes start breaking. Most bike shops wont fix these online purchased e-bikes that they dont sell. And from what I have seen, some cheaper ones batteries usually only last a year or 2. Replacements usually cost $250+ if you can even get them

We've got a scooter and onewheel looking things crew that ride some trails and jumps...I found it interesting when we past them on the trail taking a smoke break haha

I do still want an eMTB and some sort of e-commuter/fun around town and farm bike whether it has a throttle or not haha.

Me and another "old" guy were taking a breather at the top of a long climb and a group of 20somethings rolled up high fiving saying they crushed that climb. All on E-bikes. The guy I met there almost made them cry. lol

September can be a little warm, depending on what part of the month but it’s not July or August!

I'm coming around to the acceptance of e-bikes as a general bike for whoever wants them. They aren't for me at this point in time, but my own personal decision shouldn't stop others from getting out and enjoying the trails - the more riders the more advocacy and awareness of the sport there is.

That said, the biggest concern I have is that e-bikes let newer riders skip the forced learning curve of experience. When on a regular bike to be able to ride fast and far, you have to earn it and learn some things along the way. Throw a pedal assist motor on and let someone fly down a trail at 20 mph without a good grasp of the basic fundamentals of bike handling; its a recipe for disaster.

    Yeah.
Agree with all the e-bike sentiment here. What I've seen lately around here on the streets is a trend toward souped-up electric scooters going way too fast. I'm not sure what is dumber, riding 40 mph in the street with a helmet and obeying traffic rules or scaring the crap out of sidewalk pedestrians. One idiot yesterday was flying through the parking lot at work going at least 30 mph. I know we have good technology these days, but those tiny wheels can't be great at speed. I haven't seen them on the trails, but I'm sure it is happening.

yeah, that's my biggest concern. so many riders who jump in but don't know how to handle bikes. I haven't seen any evidence of poor handling on e-bikes leading to disaster. just novice riders on novice trails. so my concern may be entirely unfounded.
