id do it. Best expression I’ve ever ever heard is referring to SA as “yoga” Where all you have to think about is pedal.. no frills . I prd A lot of trails just because you have to keep moving or lose momentum. Also, for what it’s worth, my bike is a titanium S7 that I overforked 10mm with 140 And I love it. And oval front chain ring and it’s fun. I’m also a nerd and like belt drive.. Which is why I got this frame
Hardtail party does a good review on how compression of the fork steepens the HTA on a hard tail But in my opinion, going from geared to single speed isn’t going to change anything geometry, wise or suspension wise compared to gears.

Sales are so stupid cheap right now I would just get a second set of wheels with a Shimano Hg driver And shoot while you’re at it get AXS so it’s easy to switch back-and-forth… I’d say money is an issue, but you’re a titanium bike, right? JK I’m cheap and mine was on a crazy sale:D

Alright, seems like the consensus here is to go for it. I was sure someone would have a dissenting opinion, but I guess it’s a bit of a sign when everyone is pro-SS (except @ginseng27… hard to tell where you fell :p)

@gdb85 I’m not really worried about the bike being over-forked or the 140 sapping energy as this bike is already so light and snappy, besides part of the point of the SS is to get a little more exercise IMO.

@RtacomaN I do agree with SSing being like bike yoga; that is kinda why I started thinking about converting this bike. There are plenty of rides I do these days where I’m just getting out for a quick ride between work and kids and the simplicity of a SS would just add to the meditative experience I’m going for.

I do have two wheelsets I can throw on the bike, one is Shimano HG and the other SRAM XD, but converting back and forth reguarly sounds like a bit of a pain. I can always ride my Evil if I want a different experience. I think I will throw an oval chainring on though…

I put it up for sale locally. The frame (size Large) plus all the extra parts (dropper, headset, brake adapter, seat clamp, sliding dropouts, UDH, rear axle) for $875. If you are interested, let's chat. I have a frame box and can easily ship it!

Sounds like a good deal. Sadly I’d need a frame shrinker with the size large. GLWS!

Got to take my Month old Taco out with my bike the other day. Looking forward to a couple weeks when I road trip to ride in Colorado as the trees turn colors.

Took a slight modification, but yes super convenient. I can put the mtbs in the camper but annoying if it's a mtb only day.

Anyone have any positives or negatives for the various full fat ebike motors or just bikes in general? Planning to pick something up for my moms and to travel (drive/camping) with. My riding in Florida never seems to have me prepared for actual climbs that I have done in NC/VA area.

Looking at Santa Cruz Heckler, Specialized Levo, Transition Repeater EP, Commencal, maybe Orbea Wild, Trek Rail. I like the Pivot Shuttle AM but don't like the price. The Specialized and Trek seem to be over priced for the specs available. Who ever thought Santa Cruz would be one of the better specced and less expensive options?

I would like the Bosch motor based on some feedback from a local shop and internet research but they are pretty limited with manufacturers. And maybe that was just some dude trying to make a sale...

I would also like to stick with SRAM, again familiarity. GX Transmission seems like it would be the sweet spot.

I am leaning towards a mid-travel trail setup. I am used to a trail bike, don't think I will ride much where enduro travel would be needed. Travel and availability are what is kind of ruling out the Orbea.

I know that with bikes these days it is hard to go wrong but adding the motor does add some complexity. I think I have analysis paralysis right now. It doesn't help it is the end of the model year so options are limited and new bikes don't seem to be out yet.

I can really only speak to Specialized and Santa Cruz. You can’t go wrong with either. There’s always sales on the Specialized bikes too.

I haven’t had any issues with my Levos or my gfs Santa Cruz Hecklers.

You can’t really go wrong in selection. Guess it depends on what bike is more suitable to what and how you want to ride. I know the Spesh e-bikes aren’t exactly coil friendly.

Good to hear some real world use case.

Not really thinking about going coil. For my style of riding an air shock has been more than adequate. This might be a case of I don't know what I don't know but I don't see myself switching to a coil.

Might be a case of I'm going to have to take what I can find or wait.

I’d go with the motor you prefer over almost any feature. Personally, I’d get as much squish as possible because it’s not like you are pedaling it around.

A few weeks ago I asked for suggestions about where to meet my wife near the top of Whole Enchilada above Moab as she completes her last day of a 7 day 215 mile Durango to Moab San Juan Huts ride. Thanks for all the tips.

Tonight I’m camped a 1/4 mile from where their route intersects with the Jimmy Keen trail. Only about 4 rigs camped within a mile either direction. Quiet and a stunning sunset. Plus I got in a few miles on the JK and Kokopelli trails. Thanks again for the suggestions. And ATT cell signal is strong here too. FYI the LaSal Rd is closed on weekdays from about 8-5 for construction but fully open on weekends.

I'd also throw in battery size will also help. A full power ebike will last enough for a "full day" at somewhere like Kanuga or Jarrods. I tend to leave mine in boost/turbo and just crank out the miles faster and for lack of a better term get the ride over with. Some people like to climb in trail/eco to conserve battery.

It also comes down to budget too, iirc both of my Levos were around $5-5500. They can definitely be had cheaper as well.

Is a carbon fork on a 2nd hand road bike a bad idea?

I've been searching for a cheap used hybrid bicycle. Trek Fx, Cannondale quick, and Sirrus (non X) bike. Been holding out for a carbon fork model, but now I'm wondering if a steel fork is safer, for light abuse such as hoping curbs, driveway gaps, even riding down stair steps.
Would like to save 2-3lbs with Carbon, but not if they're delicate.
