A guy on a Yeti FB page 3D printed a bushing that replaces the red bushing on the T-Type rear derailleur (the non-UDH Yeti derailleur hanger mounting hole is bigger than UDH). The additional part you'll need is a Yeti UDH axle. The stock axle will not work.

I buggered up the internal hex portion of the axle on my wife’s new bike which has IDH and T type (I actually think it was damaged by the assembler at the direct-sales only manufacturer, I won’t name names). Are all T type axles the same? Her’s does have the bike manufacturer name printed on it.

I think UDH axles can be bike specific based on the frame (and suspension setup). For example, some frames have the bearing pivot right at the axle which will require a wider axle. Some rear axles (like on the Yeti) requires the hex wrench to be slammed all the way in (about 1/2" to 3/4" in for it to engage fully) so you may want to see if your UDH axle is the same.

My wife’s bike is Lauf. I suspect the hex got damaged because someone (me??) didn’t insert the 6mm Allen key all the way, it spun and I got a bigger wrench or even a Torx and damaged it more. She’s out for a ride or I’d check. I’ll blame this on getting old and not having the right glasses for close vision. I’ll just order one from Lauf which I should have done 4 months ago. Thanks.

I can confirm that the Yeti ones are unnecessarily tricky and easy to strip.

Fact! The first 1/4 of an inch is soft aluminum and easy to round off. You really have to stick it all the way in to engage the solid part of the hex axle (and that's what she said). It's the same with some after market front axles.

Add Lauf to that list. I’m not a total hack and this is the first time I’ve ever damaged an axle. And since we transport our bikes most of the time with front wheels removed I’ve handled a lot of through-axles without QR levers in the last few years. But no excuse, I should have been more careful with my wife’s fancy new bike. If it had come from Lauf setup tubeless and not just “tubeless ready” (rims were taped and tubeless valve stems were included but not installed) it wouldn’t have happened. I suppose we could have just popped one bead and cut the tube without removing the wheel but that seemed wrong.

I like the Fox style ones that still have the quick release handle. It’s really hard to fuck those up.

I got the kabolt axle on my new fork last winter and wish I had the QR handle version. It was much easier if you needed to pull the wheel to put it in the backseat or something.

I just charged up my headlight but it looks like there might be rain. I’m OK with dark and cool, but not dark and cool and rainy.

I got out on the gravel monster last week before the snow and rain. I linked a bunch of old canal access roads with some new paved paths in the Salt Lake valley. It was super fun and I got into some places that I've never been before. Also found my new favorite high school metal band...

    Ulv.jpg

I also had an interesting conversation with some old friends. One friend said he started riding again on his old bike - I give you the Titus Quasimoto...:turtleride: A few of us are scheming to get him on something a little more modern. We'll see how that works out.
