    New (to me) bike day!!

    20241030_185429.jpg

Almost walked away when I saw the condition of the drivetrain. It rode/ felt as gritty as it looks.

I think they WD40'd it? Not sure. That's Sand mixed in with the grease. The previous owners lived one block away from the beach.

Liquid cold snack, some tunes, hot soapy water & some needed maintenance.

I'm happy with my puchase. :)

Nice Sirrus! I had a NBD recently as well. I still don’t like road bikes but whatever.

I don’t understand why people put WD-40 on bikes.

Nice!! I tried a road(ish) bike and, the new sirrus X at my LBS. I DID NOT like the drop bars, but loved the speed. Sirrus X seemed slow. The drop bar bike was a Specialized CRUX. Glad I was able to throw a leg over each, cuz now I knew what I wanted.

    What bike is that?

Good looking bike. That's not helping my urge NOT to but dark tan wall DTH tires on my Dirt jumper.

It’s a Diverge Alloy GRX build. I’ve been tempted by Sirrus models many times in the past, and honestly it’s prob the better bike for how I ride. A Sirrus or flat bar road bike with some Jones H-bars would be right up my alley.

I’ve had Crux/Diverges in the past with way nice builds but still didn’t care for riding them. It’s just not for me - especially riding Florida roads.

It’s been fun so far. The brakes sucked stock so I upgraded to some jagwire cables and some R1 hybrid hydros and made all the difference.

As I googled forums/ Reddit for fast hybrid bikes, it seemed the general consensus was to just buy a road bike. Having never tried drop bars before, I started thinking the interwebs could be right. But man, thase hoods were killing my hands. Felt like my thumb was going numb. The drops made the bike feel twitchy.(as expected). Also, I couldn't bunny hop that thing to savey life. Lol. I guess I'm just not the roadie type.

You can always switch to flat bars on your Diverge I suppose. That'd be win/ win.

Now... to find a dropper post for the Sirrus.

I’m toying with the idea of a flat bar gravel bike single speed, but every time I’ve tried to build one it just turns into a more dainty mountain bike.

    IMG_8003.jpg

    specifically built around this.

^^ That looks cool. I couldn't do SS, but I'd like to see that build.

First ride with the new tires on. MUCH better grip than the stock tires.

Google gravel bike fit, if things are going numb, you mayneed to make some adjustments. Especially with the hoods, i found that minor adjustments made a big difference.

I started feeling a lot of upper body discomfort on my road bike about 7 or 8 years ago and switched to flat bars. With Ergon grips to spread the load on my hands a bit. But I didn’t really like the feel of the bike with flat bars, and frankly full rigid and 25mm tires at 90 psi just felt weird compared to the full-suspension mountain bike I spend most of my time on. Then this Spring I bought a Diverge, drop bars but also the sprung FutureShock2 headset. 48 mm tires running tubeless at about 30-32 psi. What a difference! More comfortable in every way, and whether it’s better fit/sizing or just the more modern reach and geometry on the Diverge, I just love it.
