Finally got a chance to take my rig out on the 1up bike rack today. Rode North Table Mountain. Update on the rack: it’s rock solid- rack doesn’t move at all at hitch or rack tray, easy to load and unload bike, and I’m able to lay my tailgate down when rack is at bike mount position. My only gripe, and it’s not a big one, is with a large 29er (at least mine anyway), the front wheel wobbles a bit. I was able to eliminate most of the wobble by looping a bungie cord around the front wheel. I placed one end of the cord on the rack and the other end on the padlock that prevents thieves from loosening the secure bolt. Unfortunately I snapped this pic after I removed the bungie cord- DOH!

Those 1ups are bomber as hell. If I were to get a tray style rack for my bike, that's what I would get.

I love how low profile they are in the up right position and with the rig on it. Very solid design. I found this rack slightly used on Craigslist for nearly half off Msrp. Yep.. I’m happy :)

It’s a Gatortrax MX. Same as Retrax MX. Love that cover!

I did the 13.8 mile loop. You want to do it clockwise to get some good downhill action on the backside of the mountain. Here is a screenshot from my Strava

Hey that's in Golden. I miss riding there a lot. I used to love riding the dirt trail up Lookout Mountain, and then riding street back down.

Yeah, I’m pretty spoiled living here. I’m a 30-45 minutes away from a ton of great trails.

I used to live in Golden and loved it. I live in Texas now, but I am seriously thinking about moving to Colorado Springs area

We’ve had a 1Up for a couple of years now, used with two 29-ers and no noticeable wobble over thousands of street and highway miles and some off-pavement miles. Our bikes are a couple years old, one size Large (my Tallboy) and one Medium (wife’s Ibis Ripley) and not the latest long/slack geometry so maybe a larger size and longer wheelbase pushes things out more. We run pretty low tire pressures ~20 psi and cinch the wheel holders down pretty hard for security.

I have a 2017 Pivot 429 Trail which does have a good amount of slack. Not sure about the wheelbase though. The bungie cord pretty much eliminates the wobble. It takes me 5 seconds to add this on so I’m good with it.

what are you guys running for brakes? busted the brake line to my front brake today and am thinking of using this as an excuse to upgrade from my SLX set up. mainly do all mountain rides with the occassional day of lift serve if that matters.

I’m running Guide RSC’s on my ibis mojo HD3 and Formula T1 racing on my Specialized Epic. I’ve had great luck with my Guides but I’ve heard they can be hit and miss (some have sticky caliper pistons). I’m not impressed with my formulas the T1s were known for their power but mine are on the weak side. I would do Shimano if you prioritize power and Guide if you prioritize modulation.

^^^ I would pick Shimano if you don’t want to squirt real brake fluid all over your bike when you b,Ed the brakes. At least that’s why I chose Shimano. Mineral oil is a lot easier to clean up if you’re an all-thumbs mechanic like me.
