25 at least. If you ride roads you at least need that much. Road bikes go faster than that. And some steep roads/driveways require more than 750w to go up at all even in granny. If you’re going to register everything over 20 you’ll have to include ALL bikes since anyone can hit 35-40 going downhill.

Got out for a nice tacky day in colorado springs. after two long days of yard work, it was pretty overcast and wet so yard work was put on hold for a bike ride.

A friend built up a revel rail recently. he jumped on a frame only deal before they announced they were coming back. he has a ranger and a mid travel giant and hasn't really gone off the deep end into bigger trails like dh and enduro stuff. with the overcast weather, cheyenne canon kitty litter was super tacky, so i took him on some tech trails he hasn't been on before.

a warmup lap to get comfortable on the bike then into a pirate trail. a hiker on the way up questioned where we were going since other trails in the area got shut down. luckily this one was sort of hidden and not obvious to get to. stopping out gps well before the turn off, we got to freya. i don't recall the exact details, but a local rider lost his wife and dedicated this trail to her. im glad its still around. it was pretty rutted and could use some work, but with the forest service cracking down, who knows how long it will be around.

the bigger features were still fun to ride. was cool to session some stuff and introduce my friend to some bigger trails in the area. i took a spill on a wood roller thing. locked up the rear brake and the tire slipped to the right, tossing me off the bike. almost called it after that but we went back up. ran into some other friends out for the day and climbed back to the top with them.

then we split and went on the the sanctioned double black trail. super fun. glad we went down it. was cool to see it, still haven't done the fly over at the bottom. it was tempting, but i didn't want to risk anything before heading to santa fe this weekend.

speaking of, any ride in the area? im planning on getting an hour or two ride in. i don't think windsor down from ski santa fe is an option due to time constraints. i've ridden glorietta and was planning on a couple chips and salsa laps. but anyone ride la tierra trails? looks like some sick lines over there with some decent size jumps. glorietta is like a 20 min drive and la tierra is 15ish, so not a huge difference.

either way, pic and vids from yesterday. didnt go too fast, but felt good for it being the first bigger ride of the year.

What?!... The 20mph limit isn't about top speed, it's about when the motor/throttle cuts out. 20mph motor limit and 750w is plenty for anything that could be considered a bicycle.

We have two e-bikes for commuting and they are both limited to 20mph and have 250w motors (one is a cargo bike). I still hit 30+ on hills during my commute, but no assist. No one is saying you can't go 40mph downhill, but blasting past people at >20mph on a bike path is just silly. I also have no issues getting up steep hills with >300 lbs of kids/stuff on a cargo bike. I've also been on a 700w Rocky Mountain Altitude; that thing tried to wheelie me off of it going straight up a service road in whistler. Anyone that can't get up a steep hill with that much power should not be riding a bike at all!!!

I know that and 20 is too slow for streets. Don’t insult yourself with your ignorance. One bike is not all bikes and you were the one that almost butt planted. A hub motor works differently than a mid mounted one and mtbs are much lighter than street rides. I’ve already swapped chainrings down from 42 to 36 to get close to 1:1 with 36/34 and it’s just barely enough with 500w to play with. I’m 66 now and not getting younger and also have to share the road with others going much faster. I’m not in this to play at ski resorts like you.

I think we should also just get 700w one wheels and take smoke breaks every 10 minutes…

really though, not quite a bike but I’m considering getting a one wheel for part of my commute, seems like a good option for wet or cold days, especially once we start losing daylight. I guess I could do something similar with an old bike…decisions

Theres a guy that commutes along the same road as me here with an Inmotion one-wheel unicycle looking thing. Thing is crazy ridiculous since he's keeping pace with traffic that is routinely doing 35-45.

This guy could've used a more powerful motor on his one wheel thingy.

I didn’t realize how much customization there is with these things. I’ve seen scooters go 20+ but never really understood how but I guess it’s just people modding the shit out of their “personal electric vehicles”. Amazing what you learn on Reddit haha

Yeah, amazing what people can come up with.

I remember i had a neighbor that had a Chevy Volt. Somehow figured a way to get into the programming and "edit" a few things. One of which was disabling the speed restrictions for the reverse gear. IDK why someone needs to go 87mph in Reverse, but we did once just to see if we could.

My eeb is unlocked only because I converted it to a mullet and that's the only way to adjust the computer to compensate. I never felt the need to increase the speed limit beyond the 20mph. I'm literally never going that speed under assistance. Even as a moderately fit guy, I would have to be cranking maintain that. I think people are so offended by the DJI and specialized deal because it literally only benefits the couch bodies.

Mind if I ask where that trail is?
