It is a solid piece. You can crank that hitch plate down and rock the truck around with it. It also has tabs on the end of the upper arms to run a ratchet strap between the rack and the d rings in your bed to really take the swing out of it. It isn't going anywhere.

The Alta Rack has seen many a Moab trip on the back of the builder's truck with 6 bikes, someone took a taco with one along White Rim fully loaded, and I have done my best to accidentally break mine a few times in Colorado and in various parts of Utah... I'll vouch for it.

Hell yea that's a real test. Now the real question is...how much is one?

$1185 vs $1170+shipping for a Recon Rack. But if you ordered an Alta one and we met up like we plan to do sometime, I would be willing to drive it down to you for the cost of the first round of brewskies.

I would highly recommend Recon or Alta racks. The North Shore fork style mount has dumped quite a few bikes onto the parking lots of Moab if you hit a speedbump too quickly.

I really like my North Shore rack, I bought the 2 bike one and wish I would've grabbed the 4 but it was out of stock at the moment and I was inpatient :) Works great, easy to use. That Alta rack looks pretty sweet too tho

If a 1 up is out of his range, any sort of shuttle rack is def gonna be out of it as well.

True! My 2 bike one was considerably cheaper than the 4 bike... but I should've grabbed the 4 bike and waited. Maybe he wants my 2 bike one and I'll re-order the 4 bike ;) Shipping it would be killer tho

I could think of a few reasons to make the trip to Summit County. I suspect he could too...

Kuat / Yakima / Thule will suit your needs just fine then.

Yea I got the Yakima rack currently which does work pretty well. I have bombed some trails with my DH rig on the back.

Its the Yakima "Hold up 2" rack that is a pretty solid build.

When people say I have a nice rack, I am glad this is what they mean.

Almost every normie fat bike with a rack around here is a Salsa Alternator or similar. Good value for the money, not the lightest but built well and easy to get everywhere. Most bike packing equipment around here features at least one Salsa / Revelate / or Blackburn product. I have a PDW rack on one of my bikes and it also a good producf.

Recon racks look sweet and they're local to me. They have 4,5, and 6 bike versions. $775, $950, and $1170 respectively.
I've got a North Shore 4 bike rack but I like how the Recons don't touch the frame at all.

Your Salsa is my fat bike's spirit animal. That thing is gorgeous and I want one as a townie bike.

How do you like that Jones bar?

Jones bar seems comfortable so far, I do not have any long rides yet to tell. I have a messed up shoulder so the hope is the Jones bar, Ergon grips, and going from the B15 to B17 Brooks saddle helds take some strain off the shoulder long term for longer rides.

With all the bike build and modify activity I have had over the years, the spare parts pile was strange. I could almost build a full bike as long as that bike was half 29er and half 26er (69er). So that is exactly what I am going to do.

29er 100mm suspension fork and 26er rear, 1x drivetrain, disc brake. Never been built Gary Fisher Mullet, literally it’s in the name of the frame even, like destiny.

Check out RockyMounts. They have 20% sales every once in a while. https://rockymounts.com/collections/hitch-racks

I have the RockyMounts Splitrail and I love it. Huge tray, makes me feel like the tires are snug and won't go anywhere. Each fork mount has a lock, which matches the hitch lock. It also folds down (with one or two bikes) and allows me to open the tailgate if needed.

You can also find some good used deals on Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. I see racks on there pretty frequently.

Thank you! I love it. My only complaints are the STA could be a little steeper and I sometimes wish I had more than 125mm of travel in the rear.

The newly released 2019 RIP 9 addressed both of these minor complaints.... It has a steeper STA, slacker HA, and 140mm of travel. The prices are outrageous though!
