Yeah man let me know next time you’re up.

I’ve actually wondered about gravel too. I know out towards warrenton, Leesburg, etc has gravel. I’m not sure how difficult it is to tie it all together though. I want to say someone in the nova thread mentioned a website called gravel roads.com. Seems pretty sweet but haven’t verified.

I had a summer job just north of Linden, VA (near Front Royal) and there was miles of dirt and gravel in the area, though we were blasting around in 2WD pickups then, not bikes. But that was back in 1975. Maybe paved or gated off by now.

finally made it out for a ride today. Work, and wet weather made it hard to get out this week.

check out the “Ride with GPS” app and search by location. It seems every gravel event used that app and they publish routes. It’s an awesome app

Never rode with a dropper, and have no desire. It’s another possible component to worry about.

Anyone has an opinion on Oneup Carbon bars? They are having a 20% off sale this week and I have contemplated them. Also can’t decide between 20mm or 35mm rise. I was thinking 35mm so I’m not climbing in such a hunched over position. Thoughts?

What site are they on? I’m thinking of carbon bars for my rigid carbon fatty.

I don't have my Taco while on a working vacation but a rental minivan works pretty well as a bike rig too!

They recently redesigned them, using their own magnetic pawl internals. They're also spinning on Japanese EZO SS bearings, which are running great. Had some issues with the first release with a leaky seal, but they shipped me one of their new ones and all's been well. The engagement's ridiculous, and the sound is awesome. They have loud or quiet pawls; quiet pawls are damn near silent, loud are slightly less loud than CK or i9 and have a great buzz. 1800 miles, one service (when I replaced the seals) no issues. With 216 POE, I've never felt the need for more.
I am definitely intrigued by the Onyx, but the weight is ridiculous. With the new i9 Hydra (619 POE o_O) and the P321 (216 POE) engagement, I personally couldn't justify the weight.

I've ridden RF SixC, Rental carbon, and Deity Skywire. The SixC are super stiff, great for racing, not so much for everyday. The Renthal, Deity, and OneUp are designed to have some flex and be a comfortable bar. There is a really big difference in feel.
Looks like the OneUp bars have a proprietary oval shape to help with that as well, and they made feel a priority. OneUp is a stellar brand, never had anything from them that I didn't like. I'd say go for it.

It pains me to say it, but I'm going to have to retire my i9 legacy hubs soon and I'm in a state of analytical paralysis as to which hubs should replace them. The paralysis is mostly due to being a spendthrift and getting sticker shock at the prices of hubs with high POE, the "right" sound, and ease of maintenance.

I've narrowed it down to these:
    • i9 Torch (I know about Hydra but... holy crap they want a mint for those)
    • Project 321 but researching the rumors of the "quiet" hubs leaking the oil out and becoming loud within just a few rides... maybe grease rather than oil?
    • Onyx but again, $$$.
    • Hope Pro4
    • Dt Swiss 350 with an upgraded ratchet.
Want vs. need... I'd love to keep that color pop I get with the i9 anodizing on both the hub and spokes but if I give up my legacy hubs, the ano spokes go with them...

I'm stalking the used market for ano hubs with the straight pull threaded ano spokes but they seem to be getting more rare lately. I've just never had good durability and performance out of j-bend spokes on any of my bikes. IDK if it's the singlespeed style of pedaling I've grown accustomed to or something else, but I've destroyed a lot of wheels in the past with standard builds.

I was concerned about the pig weight of the onyx also, but i decided to give them a roll and couldn’t be happier. The traction point was remembering that i’m not one of those 140lb XC racer waifs that feels every gram on the bike. I am generally cognizant of weight to performance trade-offs, but hub performance is obviously more important to me than weight. I know that trade varies heavily rider to rider

I loved the big buzz sound of the i9, but the silence of the onyx is just as cool. The instant engagement is nuts, too. The technical crawling w/ these hubs has to be felt to be believed. And lastly, the lack of drag i think nets out any loss i may be experiencing from the extra grams.

I have no point of comparison w/ the latest ratchet hubs rolling at 6000poe or whatever they’re at these days.
