Wonderful day with quality singletrack feat. @trekinit - one of the lesser known backcountry rides in our area.

The leaking P321 hubs were due to the old seals. The new ones ship with the upgraded seals, and zero leaks, even using oil. They recommend Dumode light grease for the silent, and Dumonde free hub oil for the loud. I used both, and the loud with grease are really quiet already. I've seen the videos of the silent ones, and they are damn near silent. I personally like the buzz.
I'm sure you can find something for Black Friday deals on those.
FWIW, I have the Pro4s on two sets of wheels right now. They're super dependable, and sound awesome. I really like them, but they lack that fast engagement. I actually have a set of Hope wheels w/hubs I'm not even using now.... Maybe I should try and sell those...
I also had a set of the DT350 on the DH bike. Again, super dependable, lack that fast engagement, and kinda boring. No color, meh sound. I know, trivial.

Can you not rebuild the i9s?

Good to know about the 321s.

Oh, I've rebuilt and serviced the i9s more times than I care to count... could probably do it blindfolded now. The problem with them is that i9 is no longer supporting them nor manufacturing any of the internals for future replacement. They've moved all production to the 101, Torch, and Hydra platforms. The issue with my legacy hubs is that they are 9x135mm standard and I realistically need the ability to change them to 10x135 and/or 12x142 for the REEB. The 9mm is just too wonky to keep everything in alignment for putting down speed the SS. I bought some Paragon plates to set up the REEB for SS w/ 12x142 but that swap means completely killing that wheelset as an option.

It's either rebuild those rims with a new i9 rear hub that supports the 10x135 and 12x142 with those i9 ano spokes, or abandon them altogether with completely new hubs and spokes.

Is it strange that I've serviced the Hadley hubs on my old SS hardtail just once in the last eight years, and yet they're still just as smooth as the day I bought them?

I've also never broken a spoke on any of my mountain bikes. Weird, isn't it?

    True story.

Maybe I'm not riding them hard enough... must try harder.

    It's DLX son!
Just my experiences with a few on your list:

I have i9 Torch hubs on my main FS bike that have been solid and are easy to maintain. Love the sound for letting other bikes and hikers know I am coming up on them. They score points for being domestically made as well.

Also have a set of Hope Pro4 hubs on my back-up hard-tail, and they don't engage as quickly or seem as solid overall compared to the i9's - but it's not like I've managed to break them in the 2.5 years I've had them in service either.

Good info. I have Torch on the Vassago, Hope Pro2 on the Hayduke, and have ridden a lot of DT350. The only two I really have no experience with are P321 and Onyx, though @abacall sent me down a rabbit hole of comparing weights and Onyx has been nyxed.

I have a couple friends with Onyx and me on Hydras its hard to tell a difference. It's starting to come down to other factors than performance nowadays.

I’m sure. Back when i had my p321s, 120 poe was the standard; and moving from that hub to onyx was a material change in feel on the butt dyno. But if newer hubs are up at 600+ poe w/o penalty to drag, its hard to make the case for tradeoffs in weight and price to performance. Its a good time to upgrade hoops, it would seem!

    Newb question for you guys.
I'm trying to use my 2020 Giant Trance 3 (29er) on a stationary stand so I can continue to pedal since "rainy season" is starting here. Since once again, I'm a newb, I bought a stand on offer up and when I got home I noticed my bike doesn't have any rear bolts of any kind to be able to attach the bike to the stand. Any idea what I have to do to make this happen? quick release, or?
the stand is a Aosom 20b kinetic stand

My trainer ( cycleops) has their own axel that needs to be used in place of the one that comes with the bike. Looks like yours might be the same setup

Interesting, I'll look into that. Are you happy with yours/how much did it run you?

I bout it used from a friend for 100. It does the job, but I think trainers are designed to build mental discipline. they get boring fast. Oh and look into getting a trainer tire. They destroy regular tires fast.

I have a nashbar trainer that works the same way. Dedicated QR skewer that replaces the bike skewer. Bit of a dinosaur now with all the thru-axle configs out there

A solid two feet in some places. Haven't seen snow like that in Boulder in a while. Super fun getting out with the truck on the dirt roads that weren't plowed yet. Damn impressed with what it can do.
