Thanks. Does that go for cutting both bars and fork steerer tubes?

So no other tools or parts needed to install a new fork? Just cut the tube and swap it out?

Pick up a pipe cutter from Homedepot. Hacksaws hardly end well. A pipe cutter will cut a perfectly straight cut.

If your bars are carbon, there is a specialty carbon cutter and may be easier to have a competent shop tech do it, but if aluminum, you could use it for both.

Not sure if all headsets need them but also the crown race installed on the steerer. I think those require a bit of precision so the fork rotates smoothly in the headset.

I just checked the link I showed for the tubing cutter and that specific one is not the right size for bars or steerer tubes, but the idea is the same. Ace HW, Home Depot etc will have the right size in stock. The only other detail is whether you need to replace or install the lower headset bearing race on the new fork, I usually make a driver from a piece of PVC pipe and tap it down. Others who do this more often should chime in here, or watch some YouTube vids, but nothing exotic or expensive should be needed.

I've seen a few race drivers made from hardware store parts in the nuts and bolts aisle. I'll see if I can get my hands on a DIY article.

Edit: Here's some good advice, and I was thinking of a headset tool.
    https://forums.mtbr.com/shocks-susp...-crown-race-without-special-tools-768016.html

FWIW, the park tool version is basically just an overpriced metal tube

Thanks, I'll check out the Depot.

    Aluminum Deity Ridgeline.

I may give the uncut 800mm a shot. Currently running 760s and was planning to cut the new bar down to 780. :notsure:

Yea thats the part of things that has me concerned that it may not be as simple as a cut and swap.
Thanks again. Sounds like its time to just take things apart and find some good YouTube tutorials.

Really got my eye on a GG Smash, but dang are they hard to find in the wild to get any sort of meaningful experience on.

The Transition Smuggler also catches my eye, and I have demo experience on one at Galbraith.

Bummer is I was looking to just do a frame swap, but nobody uses the rear shock size of my Bronson anymore, so I'd have to buy a new rear shock too.

Yup. Local forecast is showing rain for the next 10 days so it doesn’t look like I’ll be needing to rush anything.

Looks good! Since you’re installing a new fork, I’d recommend going with a new lower crown race on the steerer and not reusing the old one you pry off your old fork. If you don’t have the part yet, just buy it at your LBS and they can install it for a few bucks. If you already have one, the mtbr.com link that @Gunshot-6A posted above has some good and maybe not so good advice, but I agree with the use of PVC pipe or wood blocks to install the new race on the steerer, not a metal punch, as a few of those folks suggest.

So I'm going to meet a guy selling his Sentinel. Rode it all of 3 times and just doesn't have the time to ride. Little more travel than I'd like, but would be a good excuse to upgrade from my Bronson AND be able to sell my extremely seldom used DH bike. Thinking about it, selling both for what the market would pay not what the seller wants would make it so I break even AND get a NBD! Having been able to ride one all over Galbraith for a day makes me feel better than a lap around the parking lot as well.

My dream of a Virginia Tech theme bike may finally come true!

I would consider buying your Devinci for dirt nasty cheap if you wanted to keep it TW. And I promise I wouldn't flip it

You probably already know this, but the Sentinels are 20% off right now! Complete builds start at $2559 (alum) and $3199 (carbon). Killer deals. Make sure this used one is on par with the 20% pricing.
