Thanks everyone for the recommendations! Ended up picking this bad boy from craigslist. 2012 surly krampus. There’s an issue with the shifting so the guy knocked off some $$ but I’ll be trying to figure it out.

Awesome find! Most shifting issues stem from tension, limit screws or bent derailleur hangers and are pretty easily solvable, just make sure everything is good and lubed up first. Enjoy the bike!

That’s a sweet bike. I think I’m running those rims too, either arc 40s or 45s, they’ve been super good so far!

Holy shit, you did it! Congratulations! You're going to love that damn bike.

The custom Rogue Panda rolltop bag and Brooks saddle were just the perfect icing on that cake in my opinion. It also has the original Krampus frame geometry, which kinda make me jealous since it's known to be more comfortable on longer rides than my newer Krampus. #steelisreal

My only immediate suggestion might be to replace the Minion tires with some lighter and easier to manage WTB Ranger+ in the same 29x3" size. The Minions are great for really gnarly conditions, but they're a bit heavy and slower rolling on the type of trails you'll be riding when you start out. Just a thought.

You may want to hunt down a decent 120mm suspension fork, as well. Rigid is a ton of fun, but a little bit of squish up front will provide a lot of benefits when first starting out.

I used to have a Thule T2 platform rack, then was recently contemplating the 1up modular system or bed mounted systems... ended up trying a Raceface tailgate pad. For the price of $150, you really cant beat the ability to carry 4-5 bikes, installation is a breeze and its super lightweight and stashable. I didn't really want to take any wheels off or get up into the bed to load anything. I've loaded road, bmx, cruisers, mountain and electric bikes with this pad. First pic is 4 L/XL enduro bikes and 4 guys gear/large cooler... plenty of usable space around and even under the bikes for gear.

    GOPR0835.jpg

I also have the the Toyota tri-fold tonneau cover and it works with 3 or 4 (tight squeeze) L/XL enduro mountain bikes at an angle... (can't find that pic)

I'm a perfectionist when to comes to my truck's paint and I've really been impressed with the soft fleece like material underside the pad, no problems so far. Bikes are super stable... In fact more stable than on the Thule T2 platform rack at high speeds lol. There is also an interesting product called the Bomber strap that is a modular single bike tailgate pad. I know tailgate "bro" pads are not for everyone but damn, this thing keeps impressing me with convenience vs my old hitch platform rack.

Yeah, I get it. Takes hours and loads of patience. You will swear, throw something, and swear it was the worst idea, ever.
Then it’ll be done, and you’ll be stoked that your bike will look like new for years.
Tip: find a clean area with no fuzz around, and a lot 3-4 hours if you want it perfect. Otherwise it can be done in 2.

I attempted to route the dropper hose for a new to me reverb through my frame last night. Thanks @abacall

In hindsight, I should have attached the new reverb hose to the older cable housing and used that as a fish/guide. Well I didn’t have that foresight. I’ve now got the reverb hose stuck/bound in the frame, around the BB area I think. I can’t push any further forward, and it’s bound up or wedged in such a way that I can’t pull it back out either. :annoyed:

All I can think to do now is to pull the crank and BB to get better access. Not terrible, just means I’ll have to pay the shop to pull/re-install the BB and likely need to buy a new one as it’s a pressfit.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

I’m not terrible fond of the idea of continually yanking on the hose as I don’t know exactly what’s happening on the fitting that’s bound. The reverb being hydraulic I don’t really wanna bigger that up too, assuming I haven’t already.

I’m not sure how hard it will be to get passed the BB but I’ve seen some videos where people make their own routing tool like the park tool internal routing kit. Just some steel wire and a strongish magnet that will hold the wire through the carbon.

Yea some sort of routing tool would have been/will be required now that I’ve already removed the old cable housing.

The current dilemma is the reverb hydraulic hose it bound like crazy. I’ve yanked pretty hard to reverse the direction and gained zero ground.

Ah I see, yeah that’s a tough one. I’m guessing you can’t see the issue through the seat tube?

    Negative

I’m fearful my only solution at this point is pulling the crank/BB. Just hoping folks with more experience in this area might have a trick to suggest before I go that route.

Pull the BB and get it sorted. Some frames just require it based on tube angles, some you get lucky. What you may pay in labor, you'll save in having to replace some stupid little part that you broke in the process.

FYI, if you run a reverb, buy like 3 spare hose barbs for the remote. Super common piece to break, cheap to fix, but NO ONE has any on hand ever, so it takes like a week to get it fixed.
