Sitting in the garage for now -- haha. Are you interested in it? I'd sell it for a reasonable price.

Yes and no. I've only had the Tacoma for a few weeks and we've put a stop to most unnecessary spending because of the Coronas. So I might be, but in all honesty, I probably couldn't justify it right now.

    not enough.
Just bought a gravel bike for pedalling time when the trails are muddy....gravel rides still count as mountain biking, right? Haha.

Vitus is garbage! My boy picked one up 2 months ago. Since then his front shocks blew, he drivetrain wouldn't shift, and a jacked up rear hub that seized.

All over the board including DH, DJ, and trail bikes at all price points. As you said I do think a contributing factor is the uncertainty but rather it is folks selling their old bikes at discount and people just like me are seeing this as only temporary. I am buying everything I can - the world is at a discount right now

Question for the group. My walmart special bike tends to jump teeth on my rear sprockets while I am pedaling. Some of the teeth appear to be bent one way and then the other way, every other one. (hope that makes sense) Is that normal for rear sprockets to be bent every other tooth? I never paid much attention to that part of the bike when I was younger.

Definitely not. Sounds like your cassette (and probably chain) are worn too much thus causing the skipping. You would need to replace both since they have worn together

I'm not terribly excited about the winter storm warning I have for the next 36 hours, either. Freezing rain followed by 4-6" of snow and 35mph wind. Almost all of my snow was gone!

He's had that bike for like 2 months. There's very little chance that's the case. Then again, if the teeth are all wonky, it would wear a lot faster. If the wonkiness is such a uniform pattern, I almost wonder if that isnt a super ghetto attempt at a narrow wide-ish setup to reduce dropped chains?

    It's pretty much brand new.
    Narrow wide-ish?

A lot of modern mountain bikes have a tooth profile called narrow wide on the front, where one tooth is about half size and the next is full size. It was designed to better match how chains are made where there is an outer (wider) link and an inner (narrower) link. This profile makes the chain more secure and less likely to drop a chain.

My though with your bike is they maybe made the teeth alternate to take advantage of chain tension with the side loads to achieve a similar result. Honestly, though, with narrow wide being on the front, the splay on the back is pretty wild and I'm probably giving them too much credit. Prob just the quality components you get on that price point of a bike. It's just the fact that they are uniformly alternating that makes me think there is some purpose to it.

VVV See the narrower tooth in the inner link and the wider tooth in the outer link VVV

I’m thinking that is just how they designed the cheaper cassettes (older technology). Your bike probably needs to have the rear derailleur adjusted. Maybe lubed up too.

I want to say my road bike cassette has an interesting design with weird tooth shapes (2011 sram apex). Newer cassettes are a bit more refined with ramps and what not cut into them to help with shifting.

Took the Pivot Mach 6 out last Sunday to Sedona for an easier ride with a friend who is a new rider. The differences between the two bikes was so extreme that we couldn't help but joke about it the whole time.

Beautiful scenery and a great place to ride!

Oh. Yeah, this is the rear cassette, and you're probably right about the quality of the components.

Narrow-wide (or a cheap pseudo-marrow-wide) only works if there’s no front derailleur. Does his bike have a front derailleur? But cable tension adjustment or derailleur alignment (straighten bent hanger or cage) can cure a lot of ills.
