That's a great idea! I wanted to do something like that, but I went with the factory header rail from the 2nd gen. I was trying to get the bike in the bed and be able to close the tail gate it's still 4 or 5 inches to long though.

I've got $16.00 in this and I can use this when I decide which shell I want. I used the rail in my 2nd Gen all the time but I hated how high the bikes were. I wanted to still be able to get deep in the woods with them and not drag them through the trees.

I like the idea of keeping the bikes low.

I'm still rollin the old 26" hardtail so it's short enough to close the tailgate but I'm looking to get a 27.5 full suspension bike soon so I might have to get crafty in the weld shop to save a few inches.

I have two mountain bikes. A 29er Cannondale and a Giant Rincon. I have been placing them in the bed with handle bars hanging over the edge of the box. Stupid me as this has caused a scratch fairly bad into the paint / side. Its down to the metal .. Anyways i need a bike rack. I want one that the wheels hangover the tailgate of the truck. Any recommendations? Sorry for the confusing post.

Go to post #1322 in this thread and the quoted info from Wildcat. Have photos with my tandem mounted and am able to fork mount three road bikes. Get a 2015 Toyota head rail. Get Rocky Mounts LoBall fork mount. Solid setup and easy to install.

Does anyone know if they make a rail-mount rack for 20" wheels? It would be nice to not have to remove the front wheel.
